Men O' War localization project

I bet you all know the Lego pirate animated movie "Men O' War".

If not - shame on you! >:-( ;-) - and look here!

After watching this film again and again with my two sons I decided to get in contact with Isaac Botkin, one of the makers of the film, to ask him if there is a chance to produce localized audio files to have this marevllous film in one

But I like this initiative.

This is without any doubt the best pirate movie ever made.

Having it in multiple languages will make it the perfect tool for promoting pirates.

This is a very good film, glad I Indexed it *sweet* . It is very good. And there are some there that I also really, really like...like "Night at the Pier".

This is an update with the contents of my latest e-mail conversation :

I have uploaded everything that I think you will need to my website. Feel free to pass them around to anyone who wants to work on a translation.

http://www.outside-hollywood.com/menowar.txt is the script.

http://www.outside-hollywood.com/menowarfx.mp3 is the music and sound effects track with no voices.

http://www.outside-hollywood.com/menowar_big.avi is the biggest video file I have of the film.

What kind of audio file would be needed to apply to the video stream? wav/mp3 or other?

Either would work, but wav is probably best. Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) is probably the best sound recorder, and you can use it to combine the tracks together into one final wav or mp3. Also, if you export the sound file from the film, you can load that into Audacity also and see where the voices go.

I believe this is going to be the toughest part of the work: Combining audio and video stream. I never did that before, hehe ;-)

I would use Virtual Dub (http://www.virtualdub.org/). You can load the menowar_big.war.avi file into VirtualDub, and under the audio menu you can tell it to use a wav file instead of the source audio. Under the video menu you can tell it to make a direct stream copy (since the video is already compressed), but the wav file should be compressed, and there are some options for that under the audio menu. As long as the audio files don't change length, they should stay in sync.

And once you are done you'll have a large video file with new audio, and you can put it on youtube or post it or shrink it down, or whatever. I'm sure there are some video guys onthe forum that will be more help that I am.

This should be enough to get us working. ;-)

Ok, I'm in!

Part of what I'm studying at school is post production. So I can remaster the sounds and voice acting to fit with the video. For any version, of course.

And I can do a french translation of the script too, if needed... But I'm a terrible actor, so unless there isn't enough people to do the french acting, I'd rather not spoil the whole thing by mine :-P
