Smitty500 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Hello Technic Forum! I had a question for you experts out there. I have a MOC in mind I have been wanting to build for a few years. Long story short I want to build a walker similar(6 legs, turning body) to Lesley Hisgen's lovely walker here: . I am mostly fascinated by the turning mechanism, I know it is using two turn-table gears. My question is, what is the best solution to get these things to turn simultaneously. I have been searching Youtube to find something similar, but not getting much luck. Or Is there some resources out there with similar functions? or even some sets I can look at to get some ideas. It needs to be low speed and high torque. Quote
efferman Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 simply drive both turntables, at the same time, in opposite directions. Quote
oracid Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Nowadays, you can not start making a walker ignoring Theo Jansen's work. Quote
Kristof Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Theo's walkers are fascinating indeed but the mechanism is quite different from what Smitty want's to make and not even deep study would help him to solve his problem. And eventhough your note was probably meant slightly hyperbolic, I disagree - you can very well build a walker without having an idea about Theo's work ;) Yet it's certainly worth checking out just because it's cool contraption. Smitty500 Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 simply drive both turntables, at the same time, in opposite directions. Yes of course, that is the point of this discussion. I was asking how I can drive these gears in the same manner as Hisgens. Nowadays, you can not start making a walker ignoring Theo Jansen's work. Thanks for the resource. Though, I have looked at these and am still marveled by them. But I do not believe that his walker would be similar to mine in any way to wear it would help me. Several people have made lego versions of these! . Quote
