I wanted to start a topic on Topps Star Wars trading cards. As a collector of the cards for years, I've recently picked up some of the new Journey to the Force Awakens cards and have been generally impressed.

I found a "blaster box" (at least that's what they've been called on Ebay) at TRU which contains 10 six card packs and one patch card. I pulled one of the Chewbacca (bust pic) patches. I then later found packs at Target - 3 six card packs in blister packaging and then 2 seven card packs in normal two-pack bags. The three pack generated a good ratio of cards, including the Target exclusive red border cards (one in each pack).

Overall, the number of parallel types will probably put off some collectors, but as I never go for full sets, this makes for a fun amount of variety. The movie shots are good and the cards have a definite wieghty "vintage" feel to them.

Anyone else collecting these cards or others?

I've been getting a lot of the digital cards in Topps' Star Wars Card Trader app lately. I know there are various current / recent series of physical cards that I haven't been getting (yet), but I did collect a bunch of the older sets back in the day (ranging from the original 1977 Star Wars Series 1 to Star Wars Galaxy Series 3), and while I haven't exactly been active with these lately, collecting and trading to better complete my collections is something I've always meant to get around to, even if it's not exactly at the top of my priority list.

This extends not only to non-Topps Star Wars lines (there have been a few non-Topps Star Wars trading card series, mostly promotional things), but to non-Star Wars lines as well, particularly Indiana Jones. In fact I've actually paid more attention to Indy than Star Wars lately when it comes to physical cards, as I've picked up a few unopened packs of two of the three different Indiana Jones sets from 2008 lately on visits to my comics shop over the last several months.

There aren't nearly as many Indiana Jones cards to obsess over as with Star Wars, of course. I've actively collected six different sets:

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)

The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992)

Indiana Jones Heritage (2008)

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)

Indiana Jones Masterpieces (2008)

All of those are from Topps, except for the Young Indy series from Pro Set.

I've been avoiding the digital card route because I just can't justify paying for something like that when it's not real or physical. I even have a couple free digital pack codes I haven't gotten around to using yet because I just don't get the point.

Indy cards sound interesting, I'll have to look those up. I remember hunting down Indy action figures in '08, but never saw trading cards.

I was also reading that some of the inserts in TFA packs went to the wrong stores. For example, I bought packs from Target that had the Wahlgreens exclusive cards in them and not the Target ones. Now, I have to figure out how to get the Target ones, as those are the only interesting exclusive inserts to me.

Oh, I haven't paid a penny for the digital cards, though there are some that do. But I have been enjoying the app. There's something to do with it every day, which isn't the case with my physical card collection. But even so, I am with you in not wanting to pay for virtual collectibles.

Ahh, that makes sense. I've been reading on other forums of people who have been dropping some serious coin on some of the digital cards. Even Ebay has some pretty spendy listings. Maybe I'll get around to cracking into the free ones I have.

Have you pulled anything good?

Topps just announced a Force Awakens Series 1 due out Dec 18th. It sounds like this set will focus solely on TFA. This means, the Journey set will take a back seat till then and funds will be saved for the full-fledged set of TFA cards.

Just spotted TFA Series 2 at Target - six and sixteen card packs. This should finish the second half of the movie as cards go. Also some nice foil and medallion cards.
