Legocitycustoms Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) This is a TIE trainer ship with landing dock, student J'Ban and "The Instructor". The Instructor was a ACE TIE fighter pilot until he got shot down by rebel scum. When they had found him and his crashed TIE fighter, he was holding on to his guts with his bare hands that layed amputated beside him ( the force must have been strong with this one ) ! He survived and is now a tactical dogfight specialist. O, and J'Ban is just a little brat.... The Instructor and J'Ban. The wings are stuck in tight with a technic pin making it solid to "swoosh" around (you can even drop it ) The cockpit fitting 1 minifig, can't fit a original TIE pilot helmet. The landing dock with ladder down. The black panels on the wings represent a 'Advanced TIE fighter' sideways with folded wings. Her li'l bumb... And we will close this tour with a picture of "The Instructor" ( Who looks like he could be Vaders father ) Edit: Updated the landing dock with some maintenance tools and read out computer. Legocitycustoms Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 Cute, and I love the head droid. Thank you, this was so long, long, long ago, the empire didn't had the technology to "Vader him up" back then ;P Quote
Junior Shark Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 This is hilariously awesome! I actually really love the TIE. It's cool to see a TIE variant that has a pretty unique purpose. Quote
Legocitycustoms Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 This is hilariously awesome! I actually really love the TIE. It's cool to see a TIE variant that has a pretty unique purpose. Thank you, I wanted to build a TIE as small as possible (and still hold a minifig). When the build was done I knew I could not seriously call it a "fighter", so I came up with the trainer story. I love my android instructor, he came with the story....He needs a name tho. Quote

Legocitycustoms Posted September 16, 2015 Author Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Hmmmm.... Some sort of Baron? À la Baron Rudor and Baron Fel? Or À la Red Baron, but Black Baron would sound to cheesy... I'm calling the student J'Ban, does that sound SW or not ? Keep coming up with suggestions for a name for "The Instructor" ( I have a feeling he's gonna get stuck with that name ) Edit: Also he looks like he could be Darth Vader's father...maybe he is ? Vectormatic Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Love the Tie, got a question though, do you happen to have a part-count for the cockpit part? Im kinda planning on moccing a Tie advanced prototype microfighter in anticipation of the new sets, and while i have the wings though out in my head, im not sure how big i could make the cockpit while staying within my €10 bricklink budget Quote

Yeah thanks, looking at it a little closer i can see the make-up of the cockpit. I went with a smaller desighn for my microfighter moc, ill see if i can get some pictures today. Quote

Raskolnikov Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) Very interesting. That's a simple but sturdy cockpit design. Adding another dish piece on top adds some extra room for a minifigure. I'm particularly interested in your design choices since I recently built my own TIE Interceptors in exactly the same scale (i.e., as small as possible but still able to fit a minifigure pilot). Here's the album: http://imgur.com/a/mmFp5 I don't think I thought of using a dish on top, so I ended up making a very complex but flimsier design. I also wanted the hatch to open. What do you think? Also, is there any particular reason you wanted to use this scale? My eventual plan is to launch these TIEs from the hangar of a massive, minifigure-oriented Star Destroyer MOC -- so I had to make them very compact. Edited October 2, 2015 by Raskolnikov Quote
Legocitycustoms Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) Absolutely loving them Raskolnikov ! Awesome solution for the top of the cockpit, didn't think of using the curved slopes like you did. (thirth picture) The opening hatch is a big +, my T.T. (Tie Trainer, just made that up ) can't do that. I was also planning on doing more mini-Ties after seeing darth vaders mini tie from the deathstar set, it's in the same scale as our mocs. I've ordered 2 more Micro Tie Interceptors (75031) for there cockpit screens, which will arrive tomorrow.(they are no longer being sold in shops from this month on.) "is there any particular reason you wanted to use this scale?" Yes, I grew up with lego in the 80's. Sets where small and simple and gave way for kids like me to use there imagination and add things to the model (models in that day still had studs on top, today everything has to be smooth adding lots of tiles) Also, minifigs are mini, sets nowadays are too big i.m.o. for minifigs. ( I still prefer 4-wide cars over 6- wide e.g.) + I like building mocs that look like 10 $ lego sets. B.t.w. why not make a topic here sharing your models ? Raskolnikov Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Thanks, glad you like them. I also was inspired by Vader's TIE in the Death Star. And yeah, I ended up buying four of those mini-interceptors for parts, I think. Not only do you get the cockpit screens, but you get a good looking pilot and other goodies. Thanks for linking Dark Zion's work, too. I've never seen so many creations in this scale. There are a ton of great ideas there. Now I feel the itch to build some X-wings in the same scale. Also, his Lambda-class shuttle is very compact but still recognizable. I might look into building one of those, as well. A small black sticker for a windscreen would improve it a lot, too. I suppose I could make a topic for my TIEs -- might take some new pictures. And I'm still not sure they're the final versions. I'd like to make them studier if I can. I had to scrap the one on the back right because it was too large and flimsy. But I built a second TIE exactly like the one at the front left, so it's a pair now. They used the same cockpit design, just had different wings and pylons. The Star Destroyer mothership also is coming along well. Another two months of grueling labor and it might be done. Quote
Legocitycustoms Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) I also was inspired by Vader's TIE in the Death Star. And yeah, I ended up buying four of those mini-interceptors for parts Indeed, I've got 3 now (parted out 2 sets this morning) and already the hinges from both sets are used in my mini- Tie Advanced (w.i.p. pics coming when it is done) I needed 12 ! for the wings. Lots of other great pieces are in that little set besides the clear printed canopy. I also have an itch for mocing my own x-wing chibby chubby starfighter, but my todo list is gi-gan-tic... I should not do this, cause it's a w.i.p. but this mini- Tie Advanced project got me excited....teaser photo: . Edited October 3, 2015 by Legocitycustoms Quote
