LegoCube Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) So my random pieces have arrived and I finally had tine to sit down and play with them. I am very happy with these headlights featuring part 4248937 "Diamond with stick". Here are some snapshots (my version of Skyline edit: by Sariel of course) http://u.cubeupload....3e/34dimage.jpg http://u.cubeupload....3e/2d0image.jpg http://u.cubeupload....3e/df8image.jpg Edited May 6, 2016 by LegoCube Quote
Boulderer Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 What do the "Diamond with stick" parts add to the light? A photo of the lights without the piece in place would be a great comparison. Quote
LegoCube Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 It works like a prism and spreads the light from the led nicely :) My camera really does not capture the effect very well... http://u.cubeupload.com/Cu3e/b93image.jpg Quote
deraven Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Interesting- that does seem to conduct the light well and bring it closer to the bricks you're using for the exterior lens so there's less diffusion, but I do wonder what the difference is vs just moving the light source a stud closer. That is, is the diamond piece actually doing any kind of focussing, etc., or is it just simply moving the point of output closer to the trans 1x2 brick? Neat idea either way. Quote
LegoCube Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 Not focusing, the opposite. It spreads the light. That is what I wanted to achieve. The led seems bit too cold and direct imho :) Quote
Boulderer Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 It's an interesting configuration. I'll have to take a look at it next time I get a chance to get my hands on bricks Have you tried with different colour pieces? Red and orange for example? Quote
LegoCube Posted September 15, 2015 Author Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) Not yet. I only bought 4 of those Diamond Sticks. All in clear... TR LT Blue and TR Red might work as well. I need to buy more parts again... :) Unfortunately orange seems out of stock in Bricks & Pieces Edited September 15, 2015 by LegoCube Quote
GoldCivetta Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 You can use Bricklink instead of Bricks & Pieces. and it's usually cheaper. Quote
Richard Dower Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 that is rather interesting, how the jewel part refracts the light. Not yet. I only bought 4 of those Diamond Sticks. All in clear... TR LT Blue and TR Red might work as well. I need to buy more parts again... :) Unfortunately orange seems out of stock in Bricks & Pieces the jewel part is quite common, its available in lots of trans colours. Quote
Chade Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Thanks for the tip LegoCube. I have a lot of these parts in pink so I'll give it a go. Quote
