Blondie-Wan Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) Because why not? Because it's not a 'mantle' or a superhero-like 'role', it's just Indy's name - one he himself assumed, true, but still one he's used since he was a kid, and by which he's known even in professional, academic circles. And of course, because he's still around to use the name for himself at least as late as 1993. Edited January 30, 2016 by Blondie-Wan

JGW3000 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 We are going to need more grey or balding hair pieces
General Magma Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 They're probably going to pass the torch to "Indiana Jones Jr. Jr." or "Henry Jones the Third" in this movie...
Blondie-Wan Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I don't see a torch passing; I'd rather have it be a final adventure for Indy, one perhaps explaining how he lost his eye. There doesn't need to be anyone "taking his place"; it can (and should, IMO) be simply the last major piece of Indy's screen biography.
Pulp Detective Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 From what I heard they're not planning to replace Ford and quite frankly why should they??As Blondie-Wan said previously Indiana Jones is not a mantle or a symbol, like Batman is for example,it's just his name and the movies focus on his adventures.

Huh.. I've never seen that picture (nor have I ever seen "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull") before... is it from that movie, too?
Pulp Detective Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Because money. Well I get what you're saying Indiana Jones is after all a cult classic and not to mention that Disney paid alot to obtain the license so in no way they would just make one more movie. My guess is that they are going to replace him with a younger actor.
Spoddy Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I'm sure we can expect a wave of Lego when that movie comes out. The only question is: will they also bring in new sets from the old movies, or will it live and die as a mediocre movie tie in wave?
Blondie-Wan Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 (edited) Huh.. I've never seen that picture (nor have I ever seen "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull") before... is it from that movie, too? No, that's from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, a TV series that ran for two seasons from 1992 to 1993, and was followed up with a series of TV movies from 1996 to 1999. It told stories of Indy's youth, from ages almost 9 to his early 20s. It featured two main actors as young Indy (Corey Carrier as Indy ages 8-10 and Sean Patrick Flanery as Indy ages 16-20), but in the show's original form, most of the episodes were told in flashback, as a 92-to-93-year-old-Indy in contemporary times (early 1990s) recounted stories from his youth to various people. These "bookends" segments starred George Hall as old Indy; that's him in the photo. Edited March 15, 2016 by Blondie-Wan
Actor Builder Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 If my math holds up, this new installment will be set somewhere around 1978. That's really close to the original release of Raiders of The Lost Ark in 1981. Just an interesting thing of interest.

And wow, I actually haven't ever heard of that TV series before - I thought that was Harisson Ford with lots of make-up on, at first... Edited March 15, 2016 by General Magma

If you're going by years since the previous installment, your math is off by ten years - 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was set in 1957, and this fifth film will come out eleven years later, so if they match the in-universe passage of time to the real one, it'll be set in 1968. That said, there's no reason to think they'll do an exact match. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out three years after Raiders of the Lost Ark, but it's set a year earlier. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is set three years after Temple (two after Raiders), but it came out five years later (or eight after Raiders). And just four years after playing a 39-year-old Indy in Crusade, Ford was playing a 50-year-old Indy on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Edited March 15, 2016 by Blondie-Wan

Robert8 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Indiana Jones and the Geriatric Ward That's my bet for the title
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I doubt I'll see this film at the cinema if Chris Pratt's not in it and he doesn't take over from Harrison Ford by the end of the film. Chris Pratt would be perfect for future Indiana Jones films.

Chris Pratt would be perfect for future Indiana Jones films. And Heaven forbid that a Ghostbuster/Doctor Who fan wouldn't go see a movie that he's not the target audience of, right? You have to remember that just as there are hardcore Whovians that would be mortified if Barney the Talking Dinosaur were the next Doctor, there are Indiana Jones fanatics that would form angry mobs if anyone besides Ford were to "Take the title of Indy".
Junior Shark Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Honestly, when that Chris Pratt/ Indy rumor was first floating around, I wasn't that enthused. I don't know what it is, but Chris Pratt just doesn't seem very Indy to me. We at least know what we're getting with Harrison Ford (Awesomeness, that's what!) Doubtful Shia LaBoeuf would come back for this- he's too busy making movies of himself watching movies he's starred in. Better him than me. Honestly, if you think Chris Pratt is "perfect" for Indiana Jones, you've watched too much Jurassic World and not enough Raiders of the Lost Ark, IMO. Not saying he couldn't do it, but I just don't see it right now. Is it too early for a dedicated Indiana Jones 5 discussion over in Culture & Multimedia? I think Lego sets based on the film are a strong possibility, probably 7/10.
Actor Builder Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Honestly, if you think Chris Pratt is "perfect" for Indiana Jones, you've watched too much Jurassic World and not enough Raiders of the Lost Ark, IMO. Perfectly said. I really hated when Pratt rolled under the fence to escape the raptors. Like he was just vying for Indy-Support or something. When you think of Jurassic World or Guardians of the Galaxy characters, you think "Pratt did some cool stuff in that film". not "Wow! Starlord is awesome!". Also, I literally just had to Google his character's name in Jurassic World. It's Pratt playing with Dinos, not Owen surviving in Jurassic Park. That's what I call an Actor's curse. Chris Pratt has it, Tom Hanks has it, Will Smith has it, just to name a few. When the character is referred to as the Actor in discussion, it's not good. At all. Harrison Ford does NOT have that curse. His characters hold their own as characters. Indiana Jones. Han Solo. Rick Deckard. They're not Harrison Ford, they're Indiana Jones, Han Solo and Rick Deckard. Put Pratt in the role of Indy, and it would be an abomination. It'd be like "Hey look! Pratt can babysit Dinosaurs, fly spaceships, and now he can run from boulders too! Yay Pratt!"
Junior Shark Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 If you want to discuss the movie, I've created a rather nifty thread over in the Culture & Multimedia forum: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=124021
CMP Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Where did all this take about Chris Pratt taking over Indy come from?? Is that a popular rumor? When Crystal Skull came out people were terrified that they would try and pass off the hat. Harrison Ford is more popular than he's been in years, maybe decades, and now everyone wants a new Indy? Chris Pratt is great and all but there's no way I can picture Indy being anyone but Ford, at least in a progressing time. I'd kind of prefer if they just kill off Indy at some point. If they want to make more movies they can be prequels starring whoever as younger Indy, but I don't want Ford as Indy to be succeeded if that makes sense.
Actor Builder Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Where did all this take about Chris Pratt taking over Indy come from?? Is that a popular rumor? Unfortunately so. Thankfully, however, it's only truly perpetuated by Ghostbusters fans and Whovians, so it seems pretty unlikely to happen.
Karalora Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 You have to remember that just as there are hardcore Whovians that would be mortified if Barney the Talking Dinosaur were the next Doctor, there are Indiana Jones fanatics that would form angry mobs if anyone besides Ford were to "Take the title of Indy". Yeah, there are cranks in every fandom.
wesker Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I'm sure we can expect a wave of Lego when that movie comes out. The only question is: will they also bring in new sets from the old movies, or will it live and die as a mediocre movie tie in wave? Hopefully we get some sets from the old movies. Even though the original sets still hold up well it would be nice to get the characters that were missing the first time around like Sallah and Toht. The female characters could also use some much better face prints since the original minifigures were a bit too drag queen-ish.
LEGODalekbuster523 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 You have to remember that just as there are hardcore Whovians that would be mortified if Barney the Talking Dinosaur were the next Doctor, there are Indiana Jones fanatics that would form angry mobs if anyone besides Ford were to "Take the title of Indy". Maybe it's different in the Indiana Jones fanbase but I haven't seen many people say they want to see Harrison Ford in the main role again. In fact, I've seen more say the same as me that they should have him in a cameo with Chris Pratt as the lead.
