KeithG Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) Greetings, I thought I'd de-lurk and post a link to what I'll be bringing to the great NWBC this year. It's a little 4'x 12' diorama constructed in conjuction with Ryan Rubino and Mike Rutherford. It has taken a year in planning and building. Without further ado, we present "The Omicron Weekend" MOCPages Thanks for looking, as allways, your smack and non-sequiturs aregreatly appreciated. I hope to see you all at NWBC! -Keith, Ryan, and Mike Edited September 20, 2007 by KeithG Quote
Hinckley Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 *smack* Oh dear Lord, that's amazing!! What a great setup! It's too much to take in all at once. I will probably come back and forth commenting as I see more. But I'm so glad you've decided to come out from under your lurk shield. Thanks for sharing. I will spend a great deal of time exploring this MOC. Welcome at Eurobricks and thanks so much for sharing your cool setup!! Quote
Starwars4J Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Great work, Keith. You really make me jealous sometimes with the sheer amount of certain parts you have! I'm glad you ventured into the area of rocks with snow since I really love that scenery and almost nobody makes MOCs of that, perhaps a desert scene next? My favorite part of the whole thing is that medical ship, I'm going into medicine so a med-ship is something I've always wanted to make, and is definitely on my list after the SHIP and cargo ship I'm working on...maybe. It's a really unique design too, which is fantastic, I wonder sometimes about your inspiration. I won't be able to make these weekends for a bit until I get more time to, but I can't imagine how much of a pain this must be to transport, it's huge! Definitely one of your biggest, yeah? Must have a friggin huge lightbox too. Besides the snow, the great med ship, the way you do the rocks, and the grave markers, I wish I got to see more of the large omicron itself (I was totally expecting a transformers MOC though). It looks great, but a little small. Not in scale, but I mean the interior (if it had one) would be almost all hallways, right? Before you bring this, I'd throw in a few small ice flows, or at least make some of the water near the shore ice, it would lend to the realism of it. Thanks for posting it! Quote
dunamis Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Wow, that is incredible! I love the detail! Quote
KeithG Posted September 20, 2007 Author Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) Thanks guys! This is denfinetly my largest project, probably never to be surpassed because it took so long to make (almost a year) that I'm sick of loking at it! I should have more pics after the fest, this one was a real challenge to photograph because of it's size and awkward dimensions. Almost every picture, except for some close-ups requires alot of photoshopping to get my dining-room out of the picture. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to leave your thoughts. Oh, and StarWars4J (sorry, don't know your real name), a desert layout is a great idea, but I'll have to seriously invest in tan plate first. As for my inspiration, it's mostly 60's-80's scifi and/or action movies. For this particular layout, the Connery Bond films had a big impact. I could see Dr. No or Largo or S.P.E.C.T.R.E. hanging out there, can't you? Edited September 20, 2007 by KeithG Quote
Asuka Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Astounding, marvelous and plain beautiful. Impressive conception, story and result. *y* There Quote
optimus-convoy Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Impressive. It's just one of those MOCs you could stare at for a long while and still find something new. *wub* I especially like how theres multiple goings on all around. Makes it very interesting. Quote
KeithG Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 Lasse D: Thanks. I get most of my parts now from Bricklink, but I still tend to buy just about any interesting kit that falls under the 25$ price-point. I am bringing it to the NorthWestBrickConvention, in Seattle Washington. After that, I'm afraid it's back to the bins from which it sprang. Asuka: Thanks. Of course there is. There is always room for an megablocks-kicking hotty in all my MOCs. Thanks again, everyone, for the time to leave your thoughts. -Keith Quote
Siegfried Posted September 22, 2007 Posted September 22, 2007 Yes. *wub* I got word of this marvel because BrickJournal posted a picture of it. Once I picked myself off the floor I made it my wallpaper. Looking though the other pictures makes me feel like I need to pass out again.... I can't believe you plan to sort it so fast though... 8- Quote

Starwars4J, thanks for your interest. The scale of many of the mocs in the diorama is difficult to perceive in some of the photos because it is so long (almost 13ft.) Tor Omicron is 4ft. in diameter and and each chamber on the outer ring has an interior space of 14x30 studs. These pictures may help Ryan Rubino More detail pics will be posted after NWBC in Seattle.
