Wow, Jag, these are excellent suggestions! I seriously love every single one of them. Your descriptions are giving me some good ideas.

Spare bricks are certainly an issue. I've got lots more in the form of a dozen or so assembled classic castles, but I can't bring myself to take them apart. Most of them were built with my own kid hands. :-) I'm going to my local used Lego store this weekend to try and stock up on castle parts.

Thanks for the great ideas!

Sorry for digging this one up, but I thought it was appropriate to the subject. I stumbled on this at Lego Ideas:

It's a similar concept to what I was doing here, but in many ways better. I don't know this person, nor had I seen this build before. I just thought it was really nice and that y'all would appreciate it.

Nice! I have myself been toying around with plans to do exactly this for many months, even writing down in detail the modules I wanted to build. I just never got around to do it. It's fun to stumble across this thread and see many of the same ideas I had in brickform. :classic:

Very cool! Do it, and do it better than I did.

I'm not imaginative enough to do it better, and several of the modules will be eerily similar - but I might do it anyway.

You should!

You know, this gives me an idea. Since we're not getting any new product any time soon, we should do Historica type challenges, only in Lego set style with production parameters. Like a blacksmith with a limit of 200 pieces and two minifigs, or an MMV style add-on building with the same footprint and similar piece count. I think we could have a lot of fun with it and end up with a whole host of suggestions for what we want from TLG when they get back to making real castle stuff.

Something along those lines was started in Pirates about 18 months ago but the announcement of a new pirates wave sunk it (sic) rather quickly. You could trawl that for some of the research around production parameters that I did.

Looks good. This castle shows more day-to-day of medieval life, with a blacksmith shop, kitchen, etc, while the castles made by Lego focus more on the battles rather than civilian life.

I think one of the best parts is that you can make it what you want. I was thinking of executing on some of Jagger's ideas like the barracks. Maybe leave out the bad guy siege weapon and make it an army builder with two good guys and three bad guys.

That's cool, I'll look into that. If you were involved, it's probably much more thorough and better developed than if I tried to engineer something like that in a vacuum.
