The other day I was at TRU and looking at their legos all most all of them are over priced!!!

heres a few examples-

the star wars republic cruiser $99.99. at the lego store $89.99

the star wars hoth base $59.99. at the lego store $49.99

the little mars mission ship $7.99. at the lego store $4.99

I would like to know how everyone else feels about this issue and urge everyone not to

shop at tru until they lower there prices.

Yeah, it's a pretty well known and widely discussed situation, but someone must still be buying sets there (not me). I will pass through one to see if they have anything on clearance, but even that has been non-existant lately. They actually marked up previously clearanced sets back to full price (or their full price in some cases, meaning even more).

I'm not sure why they are getting away with it, but as I said, someone is still buying the sets. Only thing I do appreciate is that the one I was in tonight had devoted an entire aisle to just LEGO. Both sides. Top to bottom. Plus all 4 endcaps. Then they had duplo on the next aisle, so it was more like 1 1/2 aisles. That was almost impressive. Wish there had been something for me to buy without feeling like I was getting ripped off.

I am glad you started this thread Ogel111. I have noticed the price hikes at TRU too. I don't understand why TRU has jacked up their prices either. I worked for TRU from '99 to '01. I never noticed this practice then. So I really have no idea when they started to raise the prices. I noticed the change about a year ago. I try not to buy Lego sets from them either since this happened, but I like to check them out to see if they have received any special sets. I get :-X every time I walk through the aisle and see the prices.

I have been to Wal-Mart lately and I am happy to see that their Lego aisle is getting better. They are finally starting to carry more of the newer sets. Target on the other hand is starting to look like Wal-Marts old Lego selection(NOT TOO MUCH). I have a theory on TRU's price hike. I heard rumor that the company wasn't doing so well. Maybe the price hike is to compensate the lack of sales. Well anyway, we all know how big business works. We are left guessing, and they will never tell the reason.

Yeah, the pricing issue can be annoying. On the other hand, our local TRU often has sets that no other local store has, so it ends up being cheaper to get it from TRU than to buy it online and pay shipping (not to mention that it's always better to be able to build the set when you buy it, rather than having to wait a week for it to come).

In France TRU is not sellong sets above the SAH price unlike most of the other toy stores. And like I said previously, they tend to have new sets cheaper than SAH. For instance the JSF is 10

Glad you brought this up!

I paid 99.99 for my RP, and 59.99 for my HRB, not knowing retail!!! >:-(

What's your problem, TRU? They're turning into a KB Toys, right? :'-(

IF they ran a sale like that here, they'd hide the AT-ATs first. Honest, I've actually had an employee admit that they removed floor stock before a sale so that those items wouldn't be included, despite advertising that they would (and in some cases picturing those exact sets). >:-(

Really ??

Tks God they don't do that here |-/

If you do that with friends, you really lower the costs of big sets >:-) So lets hope they won't change their policy this year |-/

The problem is that I never really benefited from that but this year with the Hoth base, Tie Crawler and AT-AT I'll go nuts X-D

*yoda*

i was wondering where all those sail barges went last year when they had the buy 2 get 3rd free sale. not all stores are the same though. some are more retarded than others. i prefer the times square tru. they are much more reasonable than the other stores. i don't see them hiding any sets (eg, 6212 x-wing was available there when everywhere else is empty). they take all tru coupons, while other tru stores will come up with stupid excuses like only one coupon is permitted, or that coupon is not valid with sale items or other b/s like that. it's annoying because i had to go other tru stores to complete the purchase or walk another round in that store and try another cashier in 1 hour.

digressing....but related...

i recalled trying to buy a "happy feet" dvd for my son during the dvd sale, and i couldn't find any on the shelves. i then spotted 4-5 boxes full hiding behind the service counter and asked the lady there if i can get a WS version. so yeah, i do think they hide stuff during sale. it's no surprise they would do that to lego sets too.

if you want to buy normal sets at retail price, i suggest tapping amazon.com first. they ship for free (above $25 in purchase) and usually charges no tax, which comes to cheaper than walmart or target. for sale items though, nothing beats finding clearance sets for a good price at either walmart, target or tru. :-P

for eg, during august in tru, the ucs batmobile was on clearance for $49.99, with a further 20% d/c for clearance items. there was an online coupon from toysrus.com for another 20% off, and another email coupon for $5 off $25 total purchase. total purchase incl tax comes up to $29, which is like 60% off. :-D

This pattern is very different from here in Denmark.

Here In Denmark, Tru is always between 5% and 10% below S@H prices, which is general pattern for all of Tru's products.

Yes, I have seen that myself! I now hate TRU!
