I've seen this idea before, but never with a switch done so smartly. *wub* The use of magnets is a great idea. If I had the pieces i'd try it out myself. Thanks for posting this; it does speak for itself! :-D

:-/ It talked to me...

Now, what have we told you about your meds and posting, Hinckley? :-P

I like it. It's realistic, and it I vote we tell TLC to make an official version.

All who agree, raise your right hand. All those who don't, Go space yourself! >:-(

Reminds me more of a Maglev train like in Japan and China

Now those things are awesome!!

This is pretty cool *y*

I thought about making a lego maglev but I need alot of magnets :-D

Very cool find Hinckley. I liked the design of the Monorail train better. I have been playing around with the idea of modifying my monorail to a 6-wide unit, and this is a *sweet* design.

Model On!!

I really like that switch track they have made ad I like the bulkyness of the tram. I thought of making a monorail, then gave up. shame! :-/ nice find Hick! *y*

There's actually a difference between a tram and a monorail. Monorails are usually magnetic cars on a single magnetic track. Trams use tracks like a train.

Uh, did I get that right? 8-| .

Anyway, the bulkyness is good of the monorail car, but the cockpit is soooo cramped!

Have you seen this yet?

I have build It from the instructions - it IS very impressive and very close to the original! *wub*

Monorails aren't necessarily magnetic. Monorail simply means mono-rail - one rail. Most monorails run on tires both vertical and horizontal to keep it on the rail. Maglev is the kind of train that uses magnets to suspend it on the rail (maglev = magnetic levitation), and a Maglev Monorail would be a monorail that uses magnets.

In any case, I've been following this builder's brick-built monorail evolution for years, and I am very intrigued. I've been dieing to try it out myself, and with this latest iteration it might just very well spur me to action.

The only problem I have with it is the use of the old train track rails to add the shape to the curved track, and I only have a problem there because I don't own any of those rails, at least not the curved variety. :) Perhaps a combination of hinged bricks and some fancy brick work would be able to lock the curve without the use of the rails, it certainly begs for experimentation.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, as long as you were to lock down every third section of track (that is to say lock down the section of track after every third hinge), say, to a baseplate, you wouldn't need anything else to keep the shape of the rail, it should hold it shape by itself. However, the curved rails do provide a nice, smooth arc which prevents other problems like making too sharp of turns.

Thats very technically impressive. Needs a lot of parts though.

I finally tracked down a cheap Airport Shuttle. Arrivd today. $200 with box and instructions. Jeez they're getting hard to find. One went for $500 on ebay the other day.
