lanesteele240 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I want the monster fighters haunted mansion. Problem is i just cant pay 450 bucks US for it(minimum ebay). My question is could it be bricklinked for a reasonable amount. I know some of the rare bricks can be replaced. Like the printed 1x4 planks and the play functions and minis are not required for me. Or should i just keep waiting for a used kit to show back up for 300-350 bucks. We have a cool christmas set up and this would be cool for All hallows' eve. The real dumb thing is i had this in my hand at the lego store once. I did not want to carry it around the mall and decided to go back last to get it. Me and the wife got in a fuss and left the mall before we got back around to the lego store. Quote
tkatt Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I read your post and thought "lanesteele240 thinks they're going to get someone to figure out how much it will cost to bricklink the Haunted House for them! Psshh make em do their own work!" But then I got curious and ended up looking in to it. Brickowl has a nice feature where it will break down the set by its inventory and then show the lowest price for each part. Of course there is no way one seller will have all the parts at the lowest price. But I think it is useful for gettting an idea of the cost. http://www.brickowl....10228/inventory My quick estimation is that if you buy all the parts used in good condition (minus the minifigs) you could probably build it for around $250- of course shipping will add to that. Also having to make multiple orders due to no store having everything you need will push that cost up too. If you want all new parts and the minfigs it appears as though it'll cost nearly as much as a new set from eBay so it probably isn't worth your time to bricklink it with all new parts. Bricklinking it with used parts is going to be your lowest cost option- I just don't see this set ever going below $400 on the aftermarket, unless you have a super lucky garage sale/craigslist/thrift store find. I have this set and loved building it. In fact almost immediately after finishing it I started collecting bricks to build a recolored non-haunted version, just so I could experience it again. And even though the original set is selling for $400+ I'd never sell mine- so I'm saying don't skip it. Oh and I had a very similar experience as you. Black Friday 3 years ago at Target. I see they have the POTC Black Pearl for $70. I pick it up. My wife has our cart in another aisle. I put the set back on the shelf and go to ask her if I should get it. She says sure. I went back for it and of course it was gone. Quote
lanesteele240 Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 (edited) Thank u tkatt. I was just trolling brick link and it wont be viable to link this set. Like you say. The sand green is just not common. One guy will have 50 of these but nothing else. The 1x4 and 1x6 blocks are close to 50 bucks shipped. The modified 1x2 in light blueish grey another 20. I have not even priced the 1x1 sgreen block. 94 are needed. Anoter 20 bucks. And that is just the crust. The set will need to cost around 600 bucks and very rare before this is an option So im going to sell a few unopened kits and buy a opened kit off ebay as soon as i win one in the 300 dollar range. I can sell the books and mini figs to recoup some of the cash Edited August 22, 2015 by lanesteele240 Quote
BimmerBoy Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 The closer to Halloween/All Hallowed Eve's it gets, the more expensive this set will become. Get it now, or hold off until after Halloween and hope people lower their ebay price because they are trying to get rid of it. Quote
Agent 86 Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 @ tkatt - Do you have a link to your recoloured/new, non-haunted mansion? I'd really like to build it, but like the OP, it's outside of my budget even secondhand. I was wondering whether a recoloured version would be cheaper to Bricklink. Quote

In a different color it would cost 15o usd or so. I dont think it would look good in any color but the rare ones. Light blush grey would not have enough contrast. Brown my look stupid. Quote
tkatt Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 I used medium blue, I had a lot from the pick-a-brick wall and a couple of the seaside house. Also although I followed the instuctions at first I decided to make several changes as I was building. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99439&hl= Quote
Agent 86 Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 Thanks tkatt. Very unique. And very cool. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 (edited) Maybe try a dark red? I have no idea as to the commonness of the 1x1/4/6's in dark red, but that would be a just as good colour to use if they are a viable option...? *edit* Apart from the inverted 1x2 slope (not available in dark red), the bricks are easily attainable if you did the house in dark red. That would be my personal choice if I was looking to do the house in a costly manner. Edited August 23, 2015 by Fuppylodders Quote
lanesteele240 Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 Im selling one emporium i have to offset some of the cost with some birthday money. I may only have to out of pocket the original 129 i paid for the emporium. The dark red may work. But the troule of brick linking is not worth it on a 2000 peice kit Quote
dylanfarrow Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I paid 230 (UK pounds) after selling some sets like you - Missed out on it completely. Best decision as the Haunted House is fantastic! Quote
