Master parts list / catalog

I looked through posts and was not able to spot anything - so here goes. I am a newcomer, so that explains a lot of things

All of the parts catalogs I've seen and used (Brickset, Basebrick and Bricklink) seem to be incomplete. I figure that is because the majority are based on bricks, etc., for sale. I've gotten a hold of a quantity of assorted parts, multiples of many parts, and am trying to organize them.

Is there a 'Master Catalog' of all the Lego bricks that are/were made? Color is not very important to me yet, so a B&W catalog would be OK.

The Brickset part catalog might be a little incomplete because it uses Lego's own database which sometimes is a little incomplete (and I believe it only includes part from ~2000 until now).

The Bricklink or Rebrickable databases on the other hand, are as complete as you can get. I don't know which parts you can't find but I'm 100% sure they're in the Bricklink and Rebrickable databases (unless they're not Lego parts ).

Maybe you can look at brick categories in Lego Digital Designer (free software)... an idea good if you plaining to do some virtual designs ;)

I'd be surprised if there's much missing from the Bricklink catalogue, it's an amazing resource. The biggest problem is finding what you have, often things aren't where you'd expect them to be.

Once you get a handle on the different categories of parts - Bricks, plates and tiles for example have a modified variant that isn't always obvious, learning the difference between old technic bricks and new technic liftarms etc - finding things in the catalogue gets much easier. Another good resource is putting up a picture of an off part in the thread for that purpose (http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=67887) and hoping an inmate here can point you in the right direction.

Something to note that that you may have some parts in that collection of yours that are not lego and will consequently not exist in the lego parts catalogues.

If you have trouble identifying some parts, please feel free to post pictures, and many here might be able to help you. I've had the same problem trying to identify old parts for order (old incomplete sets), but with sine help from the forum I've always found them in the bricklink catalog.

can you give an example of a bricklink catalog entry that seems to be wrong?
