Graynar Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) Hey guys, I asked hewkii9 if I could MOC his set a month ago, and I had it ready for taking pictures of for a long time but my camera's acting up, and only yesterday did it finally work properly and I got the pictures taken. Not to mention going to work slowed down my picture taking time. ;-) Anyway, judging by the quality of the pics in this MOC, this will be the last set that I can take pics of until I get a new camera. The old one lasted 5 years, but I think it's had it. Pointless talking aside, here's what I based the set on: Just had an idea for 2008 that'd make everyone happy-**** Village Raid $49.99 The skeletons have invaded the village! Help the villagers fight them off, but beware of the skeletal dragon! Use the crossbow mounted on the roof to fight! Includes 2 skeketons, 1 knight, 2 villagers[blue/gold themed clothing], 1 horse, skeleton dragon [like the 07 dragons' skeleton, same joints] and 1 barmaid. 2 buildings- a 2 story inn-bar, 2 tables and shelf on bottom floor, 2 beds and table on top floor. Overhang on the side of the building where there's a pen for the horse. Other building is a broader 1-story barracks, with a rotating crossbow- like in Crossbow Attack- on top. Inside is a bunk bed, 2 barrels for weapons, and vertical-closing shutters with arrow slits and a hook to barricade the door. The Inn The Inn's break-away wall Lock the barrack's door! Arm the villagers! Market street I rather like this little wagon...simple and effective. Brickshelf folder when public My whole Brickshelf folder Hope you guys enjoy the set! I apologise for the poor picture quality -some close ups on the minifigures just weren't possible, and I hope to get a new camera soon. Also, I cut the dragon from the original plan, I could have used an 07 one, but I thought we'd had enough dragons in the real theme, so I replaced it with a prison wagon instead -forgive me hewkii9. X-D Comments and critique are appreciated. Graynar Edited September 12, 2007 by Graynar Quote
SirNadroj Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 WOW! Thats really excellent! Lego should have done a village, too! *y* The carriage is nice and the buildings are unique! *wub* I'd buy it! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 An excellent Moc! You know, If Lego actually produced the set, they could arm the vilagers wtih picthforks.... Hey, is that a *skull* with a Darth Maul head? Quote
jifel Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 you mean the blak skellie? it does look a little like it. jifel Quote
Norro Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Nice work! A very interesting/plausible set. You did a good job balancing playability and product... Thanks for sharing and God Bless, Nathan Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 (edited) Very nice MOC, Graynar! I like the Inn very much - thar's something without action and violence, but something which would perfectly go with Castle sets. The Barracks present the "action aspect". So both things - action and "non-action" are combined in one set - that's what I would call a succesfull set! The only thing which I do really not like are these ugly undeads. In my opinion there could be even bad knights who don't look as horibke as these undeads! But all in all: Very well done! You and Lost Viking should be Lego set inventors - then we would finally get our so desired medieval town/medieval market sets! I hope TLC will release something like your MOC or Lost Viking's MOC in the near future! Edited September 12, 2007 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Nice MOC Graynar! This is actually what I expect LEGO to make in their new castle sets. I just couldn't picture it really. The balance between action and non-action is very good.. Good job on that! This would make a nice LEGO set. Although I would love tudor style houses... *wub* Mr Tiber Quote
Wout Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 The only grip for me is the use of those printed Viking tiles (they look cool but I fail to see the use of celtic designs in such a medieval theme but thats just me ;-) ) In the early middleages were celtic designs used in different civilisations in europe, so it's not that strange. ZeekyBoogeyDoog Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I like this, very Lego-esque. The Inn is my favorite building, I like the viking designs on it. Quote
Graynar Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 Thanks for the replies everyone! I appreciate them! :-) Now some replies to some of your questions and criticism: Lieutenant Colonel Thok wrote: Hey, is that a with a Darth Maul head? Nope, it's just a normal 07 black skellie head. I photoshopped some red eyes on him so that might have made the head look more like Darth Maul's. xwingyoda wrote: The only grip for me is the use of those printed Viking tiles (they look cool but I fail to see the use of celtic designs in such a medieval theme but thats just me ;-) I actualy thought they looked good on the Inn -very suited to the Castle theme. But I see where you're going with them being Viking references and what not, I doubt LEGO would put these in the set. Klaus-Dieter wrote: The only thing which I do really not like are these ugly undeads. In my opinion there could be even bad knights who don't look as horibke as these undeads! True, but I wanted to stay in the current Castle 07 theme, and have the undead skellies being the bad guys. In the new castle line I'm planning on making, there will be human vs human sets. You and Lost Viking should be Lego set inventors - then we would finally get our so desired medieval town/medieval market sets! That would be sweet. *y* Mr Tiber wrote: Although I would love tudor style houses... I think we all would -how about in a new Creator set? just think -Creator Castle. *y* Thanks again to everybody for all the comments! Quote
hewkii9 Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Ooooh very nice! Exactly like what I was thinking! Though I am disappointed by the lack of skellie dragon- I was looking forward to see how you'd build it. I really like the little market street you added, and the barracks. Quote
Graynar Posted September 13, 2007 Author Posted September 13, 2007 Thanks for the reply hewkii9! Though I am disappointed by the lack of skellie dragon- I was looking forward to see how you'd build it. I thought you might say that. I was thinking of using an offical 07 dragon and just photoshopping it different, to make it look more skelie like. But I scratched that idea, thinking it would probably look cheesy...if i were to make a skelie dragon it would defintly be a challenge -almost sounds like it could become a contest idea. :-D Desgin a skeleton dragon for the 07 Castle sets. *y* Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 hey grayner, this is an excellent history based follow-up release to your Adventurer's MOC line. i really like your MOCs, and love the fact that you try to mimick the official look of LEGO products. as you probably know, this style of MOCing has a special place in my heart *wub* you captured the look of this line perfectly too... there are a lot of random, and seemingly strange, color choices - exactly as LEGO would have done !!! the figs seem appropriate too - i like how the civilians are nearly warrior like. seems almost how LEGO would have handled non-conflict oriented characters, like townspeople. great job - BM Quote
Wout Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 oops, I forgot to say that this is a great moc, and something I would buy if Tlc made it. *y* :-) Quote

Batbrick Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 Woah! for ignoring this for awhile, this is great! *sweet* The bar is my favourite part, and I like how you made it the way tlc would. Most MOCers get carried away when trying to create a part of a line and make it too filled with extras and Minifigs, but you have avoided that and at the same time made a MOC I love! *wub* My only gripe is the prison carriage, given that we already have one, but that is just a matte of opinion. Great MOC! Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote

Sorry about the horse drawn carriage though, but it's always good to have another one of those skellie horses in a set. ;-) Quote

Batbrick Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 But first I need to buy a new camera... *n* Ouch! X-D Thats gotta hurt. How many sets of the castle line do you have Graynar? Have you got two of any? Do you plan on getting the 2008 line? Are you getting sick of my questions? :-D Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote

Are you getting sick of my questions? I have one of each of the following: The crossbow, jousting, and skeleton tower sets, and I'm still waiting for the rest of the sets to come to my local store. ;-) I plan on getting the 08 line yes, unless it isn't very good. Batbrick Posted September 15, 2007 Posted September 15, 2007 Thats annoying, believe me I know! I have to wait 2 whole months to get the castle and skeleton ship attack! >:-( I will be worth it though, that castle is *wub* ! I have great praise and great doubt for the 08 line. On one hand we get new stuff like dwarfs and ogres, but on the other hand the mine we have seen looks rather <insert that tiresome argument> and just made for play. But I think that no matter which way that line turns out, LEGO should be given praise for actually trying to expand a theme and taking a risk :-) . Because better try something new and fail than just make a line peter out like Vikings :'-( ......... Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Corpreal363 Posted September 16, 2007 Posted September 16, 2007 I LOVE IT!!!! 'cept for the wagon, that could use some work Quote
