Kir Kanos Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Hello everyone, I'm currently MOCing the Hoth Echo Base from SW Ep.V , at the moment I'm at the point as shown in the pic below. I'd like to recreate the scene when the base is invaded by the snow troopers in the hangar bay. Any hints\ideas\criticism about the MOC as it is now? The 3m red pin are friction pins so that the crane can stay put at any given angle. Quote
Fuppylodders Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I think you have quite a way to go. Watching the film specifically for the scenes for inspiration might be a good idea, then work from there. It is difricult to give criticism as such, at the moment as there really isn't too much there at this point in time. I think i remember seeing a picture that depicted a cross section of the entire hoth base. I am sure there are artistic drawings and other such images that could be used for inspiration as well. Keep at it :) Quote
Kir Kanos Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Thanks Fuppylodders for your advice, i've done a lot of research on how is the Hoth layout and I currently have a lot of images that I'm working on. I'd like to build snow wall behind the snowspeeder but I'm stuck with the lack of building techniques for building it. Quote
Smitty500 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Have you ever played Star Wars battlefront? That provided me with a lot of inspiration when I was designing my Hoth base. But the incredable cross sections like Fuppy mentioned is also a great source. Are you planning on going all out and making the base huge? or just making certain areas of it to keep it small? Quote
Kir Kanos Posted August 4, 2015 Author Posted August 4, 2015 Smitty500, I'm currently planning of starting first with a small scene but I want to make it modular so that i can enlarge the scene as much as I want. Most certainly i'll build the infirmary shown in Ep.V The battlefront 2 idea is awesome I'll go play it tonight for inspiration. Thank you very much. Quote

If you're looking for inspiration, have you seen Brickplumber's version (link); it may give you a few ideas for building techniques. Cheers, Robin Quote
lostcarpark Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Looks like a nice start, but a little unfocused. For example, you've got the snowspeeder, but I'm unclear exactly where it's located. I would pick one specific location or scene, and go all out to get that fully detailed rather than trying the whole base. Watch the movie and pick out details to model. For example just the corridor where the Snowtroopers and Vader first break in would seem a good starting point, and could be modelled without needing vast numbers of bricks. You could have a running battle with rebel soldiers hopelessly defending the base to give their colleagues a few extra minutes to escape. James Quote
Kir Kanos Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) I know it's a bit of necroposting, but I wanted to (re)start again from where I left. The project on LDD is at this stage ATM. And the build is like this right now. The area beneath the red minifigs will host the TFA MF with the round dish instead of an older MF or a much expensive UCS MF. Ignore de purple 2x2 tiles, they're just for placehoding. Darth_Brick360 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 You are off to a good start. I have always wanted to do this myself. Quote
Kir Kanos Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Another step forward and now onto the main blast door. Quote
belkor Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Good work, keep going - look forward to seeing the doors :) Quote
jhaelego Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Very cool! I like the design you came up with for the back wall. I'm not sure whether or not the enclosures for the ships vary in size in the actual base, but have you considered whether or not other ships(X/Y Wings) could fit in them? Quote
Kir Kanos Posted February 9, 2016 Author Posted February 9, 2016 Actually the original design of the hoth base has specific "hangars" for each ship. The snowspeeder has this trapeze shape, the x-wings have bridge-like structures while the y-wings were held outside the base, close to the huge cargo ship. Quote
