10129 Substitutions (Big Money Saver)

So my recent waiting upon my final bricklink orders to come in for Anio's Venator has led me to try to renovate the UCS Snowspeeder to save a huge chunk of money on the canopy. I made this in LDD and it will hold up as well as perform all hinges that the original design does. However, to achieve this, I had to make the canopy 2 plates taller, which really is not that big of a difference, only an expert in the set would recognize the difference by the naked eye. This additional height also led me to adjust the slopes on the outside so they are not just plates stacked up on each other distorting the look. All pieces I used are made by TLG and are readily available on Bricklink. The final adjustment contains 105 bricks (the original contains 67). The only issue is that the windscreen that I used has an odd separating wall where the two windscreens meet, so unfortunately the only solution is to not be a purist and cut the pieces. As for myself, I am usually pretty purist, but to save this amount of money on a model I've always wanted, I would be willing to do it. I could even go back later to replace the parts I adjusted because currently my issue is that there are no windscreen pieces on bricklink available to buy. As you can also notice, I changed the trans-black 4 x 4 hinge plate to white as this would save a ton of money but doesn't look too different. As for the photos, the adjusted canopy is on the left and the original is on the right. The wall I refer to as needing to be cut is seen in the 5th photo.

Hi Cjd223, thanks for sharing

I hope that you don't mind but I've deeplinked the image in your original post. For future reference here's a few instructions to do this (it may be different depending on the browser you're using, but hopefully it might be a useful starting point):

i) Select the photo in flickr and click on the download 'arrow' in the bottom-right of the screen

ii) Select 'View all sizes' and then click on the hyperlink for your preferred size (maximum of 600 x 800!)

iii) Next right-click on the photo and select 'Properties'. If you're using Chrome you can just select 'Copy image URL' and go to step v)

iv) Next copy the 'Address: (URL)' details (it will start 'https:' and end with 'jpg'

v) Next create a new thread in Eurobricks and click on the 'image' icon on the toolbar (it looks like a framed tree!)

vi) Paste in the copied photo address in the 'URL' and click 'OK'

This looks like a nice modification and saves a bit of money which is great. I've always wanted to bricklink an UCS set(If only I had more money ) and the snowspeeder is definitely one I'd want to replicate

Hi, does anyone have any mods for the UCS Snowspeeder especially around the nose they can share please? I'd like to see what's been done to bring it more into line with the movie models? Thanks in advance

Thanks for that. Have you made any other changes? I'm not keen on the size of the front section, it looks too long and I think the gun and the flaps need re-working.

I have been working on bricklinking this for a few months, still some pieces to get but here is mine as it is currently - I was not keen on white and orange.

Hmm, I quite like that colour combo - I'd want to change some other pieces colour away from the grey to make some details stand out.

Mine is currently like this pending tweaking the canopy, I swapped the hard to find/expensive/not available orange bricks for red (although I'm now tempted to look at blue...) and mixed the original grey with the new DG when easier.

Plus it fits with the Rebels 'its not about the paint scheme' view on their ships....

Made some changes based on the suggestions in this thread, plus extending the flat tiles across the canopy. Wondering how it would look if the whole thing was flat tiled?....

Yes, there are only 7 for sale on Bricklink now and they start at $25 US. When you look at sales for the last 6 months, they have gone as much as $65 US!

I think there's only two in the set. The wheel arches appear to be one continuous piece although I could be wrong. I say this only because I would imagine that if the arches were two pieces over the wheels they would have a lot more support beneath, which I can't see or determine.

I think there are likely 6 of them, it would seem a bit odd to have a mold for such a large piece over the wheels

That works? You can't do that for all parts right? What do they charge?
