jonwil Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Last weekend the BrisBricks LEGO group put on a train display at the Gold Coast train show. One of the things I contributed to the layout was a re-creation of the train hijack scene from Back to the Future III Complete with DeLorean ready to be pushed along the track, camera crews filming the action and ABC Australia TV News doing a story on the filming (and interviewing one of the people involved with the film) I re-created most of the train from the movie including the red caboose (I would have used log bricks or 1 x 2 vertical grille bricks but I don't own anywhere near enough of either part in red to pull it off) A passenger wagon (loosely based on the My Own Train passenger wagon but modified to be more like the ones from the movie) The log car And of course the 4-6-0 steam locomotive and tender (the locomotive started out as an all-black version of the one from the Lone Ranger train set but then was heavily modified using ideas from the Emerald Night and various LEGO steam locomotive designs I found through Google) At this point in the filming Doc is pointing a BrickArms revolver at the train driver and demanding he stop the train for a "science experiment" Here is an overview of the entire train This build came about because we had some empty space on the train layout (the guy who did the stuff that goes in that space was unable to be there for this particular show). The club guys said "lets fill it with a train yard and stash trains there (which is what you can see in the background). I then remembered a previous MOC I built for a previous show many years ago vaguely copied from the tanker truck scene in one of the James Bond films and decided that I could contribute a film set to help fill the empty space. I also had some tan baseplates (not all of the ones in the pictures are mine, some belong to the club) and some dark tan bushes that I wasn't sure how to use and thought of the BTTF scene as something I could do to get some use out of them. The ability to use at least one of my recently-acquired BrickArms items (the revolver) was a plus :) I still have the locomotive and cars built and intend to take close up photos and document them all in LDD. paul_delahaye Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Here is me thinking we are going to see a train smashing from a collapsed bridge! Quote
jonwil Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Nope although the DeLorean DID crash to the floor during setup of the show with bits flying everywhere :) Thankfully I was able to find all the parts and re-assemble it :) Quote
NathanR Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 "Is this a hold up?" "No, it's a science experiment!" Looks fabulous, I love the steam engine. Is the DeLorean the Lego Ideas one built out-of-box, or did you do any mods to it? Quote
jonwil Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Its the stock set built with the Mr Fusion and the extra stuff on the front and with the tyres removed and sitting on the track. Quote
