Backgild Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Greetings! I've been impatient waiting for Episode 7 sets, so I decided to take a cut at a mini scale TFA X-wing as featured in the first teaser. The piece count for the X-Wing is 47 pieces, so it fits nicely with previously released polybag sets. I was pleased overall with how this turned out, but there are some obvious compromises that I had to make because of the scale. First and foremost, after spending quite a bit of time searching through LDD, I was unable to find any suitable pieces to represent the separating engines. Similarly, I was only able to represent one pair of engine exhaust ports. Also, the 1x1 round tile meant to represent the droid is much more prominent here than in the actual design, but I made one of these for both of my kids as well (with custom color schemes), and I thought they would enjoy the mini droid. Another color might have been more appropriate for the droid, but anything other than silver stood out too much for my taste. This is the first MOC that I've posted here, so comments and particularly thoughts for improvement are welcome. Update: Here are a couple more views, as requested. One better highlighting my attempted water spray effect, one two with wings closed. I apologize for the photo quality, I've been struggling quite a bit with lighting. GuyDudeMan27 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Looks great! The only problem I see is that it's a bit too much like a normal X-Wing. I understand the challenges you would face at this scale, which really make that happen. The front wings should have an angle, but again, size limitations. Could you post some pics of other angles? And especially the wings closed. For a first Moc here, this is great! It'd be really cool to make a tie to compliment it! Quote

I am, in fact, working on a similarly scaled tie fighter. After a couple of abortive attempts, I think I finally have a design in LDD that I'm happy with, now I just need to find some time to put together a bricklink order. Quote
Mr Man Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Nicely done, I can see the way the new wings look even at this scale. Quote
