Just purchased the Titanium Dragon for 17 bucks. The full set for 17 bucks...soon I shall own the 4 og ninja's elemental dragons.

They never made a Kai one though unless you count that poly bag promotion

So you say... Until they re-release Cole and Kai's dragons...

If they did actually make a proper Cole NRG dragon, I think i'd prefer it to Kai's... I love it's cracked brown texture combined with neon green to make a neat pattern..

Besides, they might pull a "Temple of Fire" with Kai's dragon, where there's another build included with it, and the dragon may actually be the secondary build. Otherwise, it'd just be $20-25.

TLG needs to release properly scaled dragons for Cole and Kai. If they will release chibi dragons then they must release for all, too... But then having minifig scaled dragons for few ninjas and chibi for some is just lazy even if we can do MOC.

Also, hope they won't forget Nya.

Yeah, it is pretty lazy. However I can see them making show accurate (ish) dragons with enough demand for it.

Well, that depends. In many cases that's true — however, there have been also been cases lately of the sets taking inspiration from the show, most obvious being the new Samurai X Cave Chaos set. The Samurai X Cave was introduced two whole years ago, so it's unlikely that it was based on this set. Likewise Chen's chair in the Ultra Stealth Raider set is based on its appearance in Season Four of the show, even though it's not a perfect likeness. And the Elemental Dragons that we've been seeing in sets this year are also based loosely on the ones the ninja discovered in Season Four.

With that said, the sets are still free to take creative liberties where they see fit. I don't see anything "lazy" about the choice to give smaller dragons to Kai and Cole. Rather than a lack of effort, it seems like it was a conscious decision to help diversify price points. There are a lot of things in LEGO set designs that might disappoint us fans but they shouldn't be confused with LEGO not putting in an effort or not caring.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly hope for larger dragons for those two in the future as well. But now was apparently not the time for that. If Cole had gotten a dragon the same size as Jay's this year, that might've meant not getting the Raid Zeppelin. If Kai had gotten a dragon the size of Lloyd's, that might've meant not getting Tiger Widow Island. And so forth. LEGO has a certain number of price points to meet each year, and while there's some flexibility they can't just introduce a third $30 set in place of a $10 set, or a third $50 set in place of a polybag.

"Lazy" is just an over simplication. You are right that there will be better time to release those dragons... But releasing both big dragons and chibi dragons at the same time (wave or season) doesn't appear to be the right choice because it gives an impression that Cole and Kai are lesser characters to bother having the right size of dragons to ride with. I even doubt they will release them because Cole's dragon is not in the upcoming sets and the reported codes for sets for Ninjago movie probably won't have elemental dragons... Hope that TLG will prove me wrong.

Also, I strongly believe people collect Ninjago because of temples, dragons and other Asian motifs... Not pirate ships.

@Penkid11:

There was an interview released a year ago with the Hageman brothers where they revealed that they have some influence over which sets get made. In fact, they revealed that certain sets were made because they wanted a certain scene in the show.

I know that. I mean that since Cole's energy dragon won't be appearing anytime soon, maybe with enough fan-demand it can be done.

(or someone can MOC it... :look: )

I actually like the dragon's set appearances, much more than they appear in the show, I wish that they'd look more similar to that.

What I love about them is that they all have completely unique heads, and clearly distinct builds for legs, wings, etc. They also have ornamental accessories that look very nice on them, and make them feel classy.

Like how Wisp has barrels and spears on him, or how the titanium dragon has some wooden straw-basket things on the sides of it.

Jay's elemental dragon has bags attached to it as well. They all have nice carriages too.

And if you compare the energy dragons, only Zane's is even half-accurate to the show's. Jay's energy dragon is completely plain, not to mention that it literally looks absolutely nothing like it's set counterpart. It's head is way different, the tail is different, and yet again, absolutely no detail except the lightning on it. The original dragons were better portrayed in the show. I also think his NRG dragon's head is super generic in the show compared to the set version.

But Cole's dragon however, looks kinda similar to the original, but it looks cooler (to me) It would be cool if they designed the dragon to have these rocky chinks on it's skin that can be adjusted, with neon green bricks underneath them.

A set or MOC of Karlof's dragon would be really neat as well, since it's silver and it has a really nice head design.

I think the energy dragons looking more unique in the sets than in the show (and Zane and Wu's energy dragons looking more authentic than the others) can be chalked up to the fact that unlike the original dragons, which were first designed as sets, most of the energy dragons WERE designed for the show first and only later adapted to the sets. The show's character designers had to design a whole bunch of energy dragons to debut in the same episode, so as such they probably didn't have time to put as much individual care into each one as the set designers do for each dragon which appears as a set. Other than Zane's and Wu's, each of which had a set in the works to serve as a template, the others ended up being fairly repetitive designs, just with different colors and textures to distinguish them.

That's me! But, don't get me wrong, I do like getting pirate ships with the added oriental vibe.

So, my summarized thoughts on the 'sets vs. show dragons' matter:

1. Set quality and building experience of the Ninjago dragons have greatly improved over the years.

2. The NRG dragons in the sets are a lot less consistent in style compared to each other.

3. The NRG dragons in the sets are a less accurate with regards to the show in comparison with the Elemental dragons.

4. If TLG would stick to the style/size of Lloyd's NRG dragon, that would be so nice... :sadnew:

I'd like to get back on topic, but there isn't much to discuss right now, is there? :look:

The thing that's so great about the dragons is that they lack consistency.

Unlike the 2011/2013 dragons which all had bulky heads and use similar designs, Each Dragon from 2015 onward has been completely unique, and I can't help but love that. And it's great that they don't match the show either. The ones in the show all seem similar at a glance, but the sets do a fantastic job of completely differentiating between them.

Also, I strongly believe people collect Ninjago because of temples, dragons and other Asian motifs... Not pirate ships.

That would change the very moment Lego decides to release one (the Bounties don't count).

Oriental vibe is good and I didn't make that comment to discredit any pirate ships release in Ninjago. Personally, I just don't find it the definitive style of Ninjago so I really don't mind not having any of those pirate ships... and therefore I want more dragons that are brick-built (not having those big moulded heads). Also, why limit to just pirate ships... why can't we have more oriental flying airships like the Destiny's Bounty?

Also I think we are on topic because we contemplating why there is no confirmed Cole or Kai dragons for 2016... or maybe there is. We just don't know.

The thing that's so great about the dragons is that they lack consistency.

Re: Dragons - I agree.

Re: Pirate ships - I don't agree. See above. Peace!

The promo for 2016 issue 5 of the Ninjago magazine is a pretty neat looking phoenix build! :classic: (though I'd personally only consider buying it if it had a cool minifig)

Neat! Did they say what it is supposed to represent?

According to a teaser pic I saw shared on the Brickset forums, It's a mini version of Kai's dragon.

This is why I was so disappointed with Cole's dragon. When I heard this set name, I looked up his dragon again and got so hyped. And then it was a mini...

People say what they please about the others, but Cole's dragon is the most unique of the bunch. Rocky was the most unique out of the originals too.

Totally agree with this. In the show, he has such a neat color scheme as well! Shame we won't be getting a large one anytime soon...

I loved the dragons, coles even kai's mini dragon, but yeah I would live to have larger versions of both kai and Coles. Plus of course a dragon for Nya too. We need one of those

And on the next Issue we are Getting Cyren :)

EDIT: NEVERMIND.

I had considered subscribing to this magizine, but It didn't seem really worth it as far as totally piece for here in the US.

So as i am currently catching up to the show, i wonder, how come we never actually got a Grand Sensei Dareth / Brown Ninja fig? That would have been awesome!

Also needed: The 4 Ninjas in their pajama outfits!
