Shadows Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Ok, here's the situation. I'm engaged to a non-AFOL, which I assume is fairly normal. She's fully aware of the obsession, that isn't an issue. I made a point of getting it out in the open early on. She isn't opposed to LEGO, even finds some of it 'cute', but clearly she wouldn't be involved in it at all on her own. I try to build on the areas she has shown interest in, but it's very limited. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, I just don't want to feel like I have to supress my LEGO mania, but I also don't want to annoy her with it. To me, that means getting her interested enough that it isn't bothersome. I'm just not completely sure how to do that subtly. Comments? Suggestions? Quote
Corvus Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Try making a mosaic of her. I'm sure she'll love that. Quote
Hinckley Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I had fun having Jocko pick out a sig-fig. I brought him all the heads I had and made him choose one, all the way do the line to accessories and hats... Try it. We had fun. Then build a vig and whack her! >:-) Quote
Corvus Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Try it. We had fun. Then build a vig and whack her! >:-) Ew. :-X Please say you didn't mean it like that! :-X Don't worry, I know what you mean. Maybe make a miniland version of you two holding hands. I showed this to my parents and they loved it. (I know, a bit different) Quote

I don't see her ever joining a forum (well, she joined FBTB ... got one post out of her :-D ), but there's no reason she can't have a figure that represents her and then I could build some places for us to 'visit' together. I like that, it's nice and personal. *y* Speaking of people needing whacking ... did you get my pm? I've already pm'ed poor Sinner since then just to see if I know how to send properly. I'm not sure he was that thrilled... X-D I could just start a thread, but I figured you're the expert on the subject, so I'd ask directly. Whack On! Quote
Stauder Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 So you want to turn a POAAFOL into a a AFOL? Hinkley might be of some use here X-D he keeps one around the house too.... Quote

Morten Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I think I would keep things the way they are. If you get her interested, she might like to join Events, trips etc, and suddently it Quote
Opproperaar Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Oh I know, play with lego in bed ... Oh no wait *wacko* that'll scare her into thinking she's engaged with a maniacal psycho, I don't think it's your intention making her think that :-D :-D I don't know really, how to get a woman interested in Lego? :-/ make a little vignette of her doing what she loves doing most? perhaps? :-| Quote
Shadows Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 Thanks for some of the suggestions, guys. I will take them all into consideration and mostly just take things slow. I really do want her to be a little more interested, but only if it can come naturally. I'll keep you posted on how that works out, if it does. The good thing is that she accepts it completely, so no matter how that goes, it isn't something to come between us. Well, except that money issue. 8- Quote
Brainbox Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 You know the whole build-a-sig-fig-of-your-friend idea? Well I tried that a little with my friends. I wasn't trying to get them to like my hobby, just appreciate what I can do with it. And it worked a little, they liked that I'd taken the time to think of them in what I do. And there was the panto MOC I made recently, starring in-character versions of some of the people involved. I never got to show them though :'-( . I didn't really fancy taking the whole MOC to a rehersal, and kept forgetting to take a few photos in. Oh well, I'll probably update it when we start the next one. Just thought I'd share that with you, even though it's not quite the original 'problem.' Quote
iamded Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 Okay, so combining some of these ideas; Get her to choose out pieces of a minifig to represent her. Make a vignette of her (as the minifig she chose) doing the thing she loves, with you whacking her. *wacko* :-D :-P Quote
john cleese Posted September 4, 2007 Posted September 4, 2007 make a few presents for her out of lego on romantic special ocassions like valentines and your aniversary, and make sure they're good. This will help integrate lego into your relationship. Then pop the big question, "will you play with my lego?" Except i would phrase it "just give it a try." and remind her of those gifts. She might still say no but you'll atleast better your odds. All in all based on what i here from some stand up comics, its not as hard as getting sex. Godspeed Quote
