natelite Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 sorry, my town only needs one batman. perched high up on the townhall clock tower or main street cathedral. :-P Quote
Tohst Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Thanks Tohst! *sweet* Its nice to have another Batman fan! I too think that the Batwing is great, most of all because for such a slim design it is really sturdy! I can think of plenty of things to be made: Batcycle Gotham Police Station Wayne Manor Gotham National Bank (being robbed) Abandoned Amusement park (Joker and Harley Quinnn Hideout) Kirk Langstrom's Laboratorys (Manbat) Lazarus pits ( Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul) and more of course! ;-) So overall I would say Batman is one of TLC's bettrr licences TTFN! >:-) Thats a great list. Sadly, Lego seems to think Batman is about vehicles and not buildings. Much like I wish for the police and fire sets, I would love to see some locations like a bank, an amusement park, a restaurant, a store, but add the play value of something happening there like a fire, a robbery, a random Batman vs. The Mad Hatter fisticuffs. The good news is that it is Lego and we can build those locations (As well as buy cafe corner and market street). I also thought one of the Lego figure designers was on record saying that good ole commish Gordon was just waiting for them to figure out his signature trenchcoat. -Tohst Quote
Batbrick Posted October 10, 2007 Author Posted October 10, 2007 Yeah, if Gordon is in a cheap set then I will get multiples for the lovely trenchcoat! *wub* TTFN! >:-) Quote
jedikermit Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I know I'm late to the party, but I only joined Eurobricks yesterday, so give me a break. *sweet* My thoughts on licenses: I took a "break" in LEGO building, playing, and collecting for about six years. And even though I saw some things that I liked, or thought were kind of cool, I didn't pick anything up until I saw those 1999 Star Wars sets. And then the Harry Potter sets. And then the Batman sets. At this point, the dam has broken, and although I'm not a completist for any of the lines (except Batman. And Indiana Jones), I will now pick up whatever I think is either cool or will complement the licensed lines I enjoy. For example, the recent Castle sets, which I love, I'm mostly picking up because I love the idea of using the skeleton army to attack Hogwarts, or Indiana Jones, or even Gotham City. I'm using the castle pieces themselves to add on to my Arkham Asylum and Hogwarts. I've been picking up City sets here and there because someday I want to make a nice Gotham City...much nicer than my craptastic building skills will allow at this point. ...and I think there are a lot of people like me out there who have been brought back to LEGO by the licenses. I agree that some of them have been missteps, and some have maybe watered down the overall LEGO catalogue, but I think we've gained more than we've lost with these additions to the world of LEGO. Man. Now I need to go to work, but I'm all inspired to play with toys. What's a responsible adult to do? I know! Hang out on this forum all day at my job! Quote

Opproperaar Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) What I think on licenses? Well, it's probably cause of my pro LEGO bias but they could cut LEGO some slack I think. For a comic book or a book okay you ask a million or so. But why charge LEGO any money? Seriously if I were ... say ... George Lucas I'd consider it an honour (and payment enough) when LEGO asks me a license. It's been chosen toy of the century twice! We've all been kids, it's toys, it's fun, why squeeze a buck of them? seriously *sing* Edited October 11, 2007 by Hairy Ruben Quote

Even Lego is doing it by jacking up prices and shelling out inferior sets in order to make money. "Just Imagine" indeed! :-| TTFN! >:-) Quote
BearHeart Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Here's my 2 cents on Liscences.. I LOVE them. I'd say 75% of the sets I got since I started buying LEGO again in early 2006 were liscences. The thing I like about them is that they're great part packs for creating my own theme: a sort of late 19th century/ early 20th century city theme with a fantasy twist (Harry Potter + Batman + Indy). When I buy a set I dont care whether its a liscence or not because I focus on the set design, minifigs and parts selection and not whether its from a movie or not. PS I think Im the only one who prefers fleshies over yellow minifigs... *wub* Quote

jedikermit Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I don't like that EVERY licence HAS to have fleshies though |-/ The only thing that bothered me with the fleshies is the switchover to fleshies midway through the Star Wars and Harry Potter lines. So figures I have before and after the switch don't match nicely. I've gotten over it, and now mix fleshies and yellows wherever I want to, and don't notice much. But it would have been nice to have been consistent. Quote
Tanotrooper Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 the greatest thing licenses have brought to us... fleshies... All hail the fleshies! TT We want Romans Quote
Batbrick Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 the greatest thing licenses have brought to us... fleshies...All hail the fleshies! TT We want Romans ____________ There we go! TWO fleshie fans! You're not alone! :-P The only thing that really, really anoyed me about the fleshie heads was mentioned by Jedikermit, the head switching halfway through the lines, I now have only the old, yellow StarWars figs! >:-( TTFN! >:-) Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 What I like most about the Lego Lincensed Sets is the flesh toned minifigs. I just HAD to buy that X-wing to replace all my yellow Old Trilogy minifigs at once. If we see the classic smiley as usable on all figs, not just Wedge Antilles, I only have to get myself a fleshie Ben Kenobi and Emperor Palpatine and I'm back on track with the OT figs. Of course the fairly recent addition of Lando Calrissian has me drooling, but the Sail Barge set is kind of... expensive. The same thing goes for the latest Hogwarts set. I love, love, love the fleshie Potter minifigs, but that's another 90 euros right there! And did I mention the New Trilogy of Star Wars? Luke can double as a young Obi-Wan but why is TLC so cruel as to only include Qui-Gon (my absolute favourite SW character ever) in a 110 euro costing set?! Oh, the torment! Oh, the pain! Oh, the need to get a steady job! Price issues aside, some of the best recent Lego is the licensed stuff, I think. The Batman figs are on their way to me from LegoShop.com. And INDIANA JONES himself will be coming next year! I can't wait! Though, looking at ALL the licensed stuff Lego ever did, I wonder one thing. WHAT THE HELL were they thinking on the Jurassic Park 3 line? The minifigs weren't based on the movie characters! The raptors looked blocky and cuddly instead of streamlined and vicious! And what is UP with that T-rex head on a Spinosaur? Here's hoping they'll do a JP 4 line, but I'm not betting on it. Would be cool to see them fix it, though. Quote
Matn Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 (edited) I like the LEGO licenses very much. I just don't like the price of some sets an de flesh minifigs. But I am liking the figs more and more, so that's comming good I think. Especially the Harry Potter sets are awesome, I don't have 3th movie (ok, 2 sets) and 4th movie LEGO sets, because of the fleshie figs. I like them more and more, so I will buy/order them soon. I will just make other figs and place out the fleshie's (or will I combine them...) . =) I Only have Star Wars en Harry Potter sets (licensed), I will buy more of them and maybe I will buy some Spongebob in the future. And offcourse Indiana Jones (which I did not see a movie of :o) Edited November 4, 2007 by Matn Quote
JoeMI6 Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Loving films like Star Wars, I think some of the licenses are brilliant. It's just unfortunate that the harsh truth is, Lego needs the licenses. If kids see their favourite film characters in a Lego set, they're more likely to buy it. It's the same reason why the rushed film to console games hit the top of the charts every time they come around (not saying that lego sets are rushed or are of bad quality). While I'd love to see more original castle and space sets, that's not what the majority will pay for nowadays. It's terrible, but it's the way it's been for a few years now. Quote
