That is weird, is it confirmed?

I reckon that movie must be Speed Racer, by the Wachowski Brothers.

I wonder why they would do that though! *wacko*

TTFN! >:-)

Beats me. If you're right (and I certainly can't think of any other possible racer-related licenses), this one gets a great big "yawn" from me.

If they are good and I have some spare cash I might buy a set or two, provided they are good, just to support Lego and see what the sets are like, but overall I think it sounds a bit desparate.

Licences are fine. They attract consumers who might otherwise turn a blind eye to LEGO. Moreover, if LEGO isn't producing Star Wars/Indy/Batman etc., you can bet dollars to donuts that Megabloks or some other clone brand would be. Strictly from a business point of view, I can understand why LEGO has embraced the whole licencing thing. So long as we continue to get great sets/themes that are independent of the many licenced products we now receive, I don't think I have any reason to complain. The LEGO product line is far larger than it was when I was a child, and in the end I think that doesn't hurt anyone (well, it probably hurts alot of people in the pocket book *vader* ).

I read on the last page that there will besides the new Racers also new racers from a movie who will be in Cinema around may 2008.

So already a new license, for something they can imagine themselves *wacko*

Racing movies are always horrible. This is weird, espeacially if its called "Lego Racers." But you never know, it might be good.

I think licenses are great for Lego for a simple reason, outsourced design.

Follow me here, Lego designers for Classic space all the way through Mars Mission for SPACE had to come up with a theme or unifying idea, build a ship or two, and then hit all the price points with variations. I love classic space but by the time they hit Insectoids they were obviously spent.

But with Star Wars, half the work was done, and done by people whose entire job it was to think up cool looking space ships. This left the designers free to build the actual ships. Even early on ships like the Snowspeeder were the best designed Lego space ships in a long time.

It is part of why I'm not a fan of a lot of the EU ships in Star Wars. This wasn't a design team coming up with cool ships and refining them over a long period of time (see the evolution of what became the Mil. Falcon), it was someone who was designing a ship as a part of other work very much like Lego non-licensed designs. I think it was a comic book artist who needed an Imperial Tank who said lets slap tank treads on a TIE fighter that birthed the Tie Crawler. The upcoming Darth Vader ship is just a mess in its design. And the AT-PT? PT-AT? AC-DC? looks very much like someone who liked MechWarrior needed a slightly off AT-ST.

I'm hoping the clone war sets are closer in feel to the movies and I think with a design team from Lucasfilm maybe we'll get lucky. The Torrent which I believe was designed by Gendy's group for the original Clone Wars cartoon is a welcome exception as I feel it really captures the classic Star Wars feel.

I think Indiana Jones is the same way...the truck is beautiful because the Lego designers were basing it off something tangible and didn't have to come up with it themselves.

Oh, and I wish we could have more Avatar sets. The cartoon rocks. The sets weren't bad.

Trying to wrap this up before it gets any longer

Yess!!!! Some one who liies avatar!!! I dont know why most people dont like it i think it rocks!!!!!!!!

I think Exo-Force the same as I think of Bionocle now, It used to be cool, and now it is just getting repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. But as long as it rakes in big cash for Lego, then I'll just look the other way.

I agree i used to like bionicle i bought most of the 1st and 2nd wave and even some of the 3rd but after that it got more and more crap. (no offense to those people who like it) At the moment i still really like exo-force but i hope it dosnt turn into another bionicle.

I personally think that the licenses are LEGO's meal ticket ever since taking up Star Wars.

I am sure all of you have seen the madness that is Ebay when it comes to this license, which of course makes sense for LEGO to continue making new sets.

As far as the other licenses that LEGO holds, they are not bad(Batman), but they are not good either(Avatar). Before anyone says anything I would like to point out that I do have most of the Batman sets and I do own the Fire Nation Ship.

Like gylman, I too have bought some of the sets on clearence or used coupons to lower the price. That said, I am suprised that LEGO seems to put more thought into the licenses rather than their core themes sometimes.

Anyway, I just would like to see more orginal stuff(a new monorail perhaps) or older themes turned new again(Pirates anyone?).

Cheers

AC/DC? Lego got the AC/DC license!?!?! Oh man, that would be awesome!! I can't wait to get Bon Scott and Angus Young mini-figs!!

Avatar was a disappointment. Enough said. Great show, crappy sets. What were they thinking? Interestingly, I have yet to see one in the bargain bin though...

Agreed. Although the Fire Nation Ship has some good soldier/knight type figs. Oh I did buy 2 of these at $20.00US a piece, but I returned the other due to the disappointing build of the first.

Cheers

Hehe, AC\DC. I'd love to see a Lego rock band. :-D

Yea that would be an awsome license. A music theme where TLC take our fave bands and change them into LEGO! :-D Som i'd buy is Linkin Park, Chilipeppers(i think someones made a Moc of them) Blink 182, Sum 41 The list goes on. They could do rappers to lol like Jay-Z good way to get a black fig(in a none racist way)

IJ is great, because of its historical value to WWII builders.

Avatar sets... I think I'll buy the minifigs...

Batman sets... this line cant get new sets, because how many vehicles does bat have?

Spongebob wish they released it sooner... I'll get the minifigs.

Ferrari: 1st line was great but its getting really annoying.

I disagree with your statement on the Batman sets. there are still plenty of characters to be made and locations too.

The Batman line can have plenty of new sets, there are still a lot of villains, and how about we have some buildings rather than another Bat-vehicle, like in Arkham Asylum? (Although that did come with the Bat-glider...) And why did they give away Spider-man? Marvel's way better than DC (:-P) and we could have had other things, like the Fantastic Four, Iron Man (well, maybe that's a bit violent...), the Avengers, X-men! That'd be awesome, one can dream... *wub* ...and lets not go into the Punisher... >:-)

...or Ghost Rider... :-P

I'm looking forward to Indiana Jones, there's some lovely lookin' vehicles.

Spongebob's alright, plenty of room for continuation, better than a lot of other Nickelodean shows TLC might have picked.

I agree with TT on Ferrari, it was great at first, but they aren't releasing any new characters (you know what I mean) so it's getting kind of boring...

And Avatar, man, I love that show! *wub* Too bad the sets aren't sold in NZ... :'-(

Well, there's my 2 cents. *sweet*

In regards to Spidey, the Lego license was with Sony Pictures, not with Marvel. Thus, Lego was locked into using characters and scenes ONLY from the movies.

With Batman, the conventional wisdom (had this ever been officially confirmed?) is that the license is with DC, which gives Lego more freedom in creating whatever sets or characters they want, inspired by whatever medium they want (movies, comics, cartoons, etc.).

And yes, Marvel IS way better than DC. X-D

Don't get me wrong, Batman are very nice figures and sets, but the vehicles bother me. For me, there isnt much play value in Batman... they rob a bank and then what? batman captures them and puts them Arkham, only to escape next week and rob another bank...

Man, I really want some official correct, no prototype pics of IJ...

No offense Tanotrooper but I don't think that makes much sense. The spiderman licence ONLY had scenes from the movies, so you could only really make the movies. Batman, on the other hand, has an infinite amount of possibilities and play potential because you make your own story up.

And while people may like Marvel better than DC, I like DC because it is darker, and anyone who has seen Batman: The Animated Series or Batman: Mask of the Phantasm will agree that he is the most engaging hero of either comic.

well, I cant really make up stories for batman, but I'm sure batman fans will enjoy it. I love "the batman" from cartoon network (here on VTM but swat) and the animated series from the 90's.

You could reduce almost anything to that. Even the 37,000 Lego Police Stations. Or you could have Ras Al Ghul needing to fix his Lazarus Pit and enlisting Bane to coordinate a series of disruptions in Gotham City to hide his true intentions.

The pit is hidden in a location built from various Adventurers Egypt sets. Nightwing gets the keys to the Batmobile to capture the Scarecrow who is working with Bane (and unbeknownst to him, Ras). Robin goes after the Riddler and ends up in over his head. Can Nightwing save Robin even after he destroys the Batmobile (Batman isn't going to be happy with his higher insurance rates)?

Batman analyses some clues he got while beating up Bane and jumps in the Batwing to high tail it down to Egypt before Ras' plan comes to fruition. But wait, the Joker is up to something in Gotham (again planned by Bane). Can Batman trust Nightwing and Robin to hold down the fort until he gets back? Will the Joker stick to the plan? And Catwoman? Whose side is she on? Especially when jealousy rears its ugly head as Talia appears to distract poor Batman.

I'm a big fan of the Batman sets and the Batman 'drama'. I do think that the sets would be better if they were copying specific vehicles from movies or comics as opposed to just the 'look'. The two best vehicles are the ones that look the most like they were copied from movie or cartoon designs, the batwing and the batmobile. I think the Batwing is the most interesting and figure it would've looked exactly like the one in the Cartoon or movie if not for the recent C3 set.

I hope we get 2008 Batman movie sets. I think those should have some pretty spiffy looks to them.

Thanks Tohst! *sweet* Its nice to have another Batman fan!

I too think that the Batwing is great, most of all because for such a slim design it is really sturdy!

I can think of plenty of things to be made:

Batcycle

Gotham Police Station

Wayne Manor

Gotham National Bank (being robbed)

Abandoned Amusement park (Joker and Harley Quinnn Hideout)

Kirk Langstrom's Laboratorys (Manbat)

Lazarus pits ( Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul)

and more of course! ;-)

So overall I would say Batman is one of TLC's bettrr licences

I don't know 8-| .........

I think TLC will be hardpressed to find a good Lego licence after Batman, Indy and StarWars. Something tells me Marvel won't work out. I reckon maybe a James Bond licence? X-D

Another Batman fan here too!

That's a great list, Batbrick. Wayne Manor and Gotham Police Station (with a light-up bat signal?) seem like such no-brainers to me. How could Lego NOT make those sets??

More bad guy hideouts would be awesome. The recent Riddler/Bane set ended up being a big disappointment in that regard.

In general, I'd like to see Lego get away from their trend of including Batman and a villian in each set. They do this with Castle and Space too, where they put both the good guys and the bad guys in each set (and yet, they don't do it with Star Wars; why not?). It makes for some dumb sets, like the ridiculous Bat-dragster. If they had just made a cool Catwoman set, and left Batman out of it, it would have been a much stronger set.

I want a UCS Batmobile based on Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns."

I like the Movie themes or TV Shows, but i would like to see more idea made sets.

I hope in time the actually listen to what sets there fans want than making things that make them lots of money from.

Thats the thing that annoys me *sad*

On the other hand some sets are pretty cool.
