Batbrick Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Piranha, what did you think of the castle line before? also, the ability to be able to actually change your opinion in the face of logic (not saying you were wrong or I was right 8-| ) is a good quality to have Piranha. I am too stubborn for my own good sometimes. :-D Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 IMO, the troll looks cartoony, but cool that way. It's a nice new addition, and with more pixels and more trolls and more goblins and what have you to come, I think Castle is covering new ground this way. So I say 'Keep it up Lego!' :-) Quote
Vader Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I'm looking forward to seeing a much better pic of the new dwarf set, the troll does look abit to duplo so far but i'm hoping that lego fix that before releasing it. Also with any luck lego will produce some mean looking goblins, the nastier the better if you ask me. Oh and the new arms on the skelies suck, the old ones were so much better....Just my opinion. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Atleast an :-/ skellie is better than no skellie eh? And I also will hold my views on Dwarf Minig until I see better pics. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Norro Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I like the new knights, a huge improvement on the jellybeans. I've never liked fantasy elements, so the skeletons etc will probably be cannibalized for parts. Bley prevents me from buying the large sets but the smaller ones have proved rewarding and decent value. God Bless, Nathan Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I dislike the term "conclusion" since this theme is brand new and will see in '08 a lot of new sets !! Anyhow if I had one term to describe it it would be...brilliant I am the opposite of Norro here, that fantasy atmosphere really made me like that theme and I am so pleased to see the return of old parts in that beutifull pearl colour (me love the shortsword *wub* ) !! Also we have a fantastic line that is really well priced with loads of MFs and accessories !! I really blame TLC for making such a fantastic line...must have all... I cannot wait to see what '08 holds, and I am positive it will be as brilliant 8- Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 (edited) Yeah, both *vader* and BatBrick are right. If Lego wanted to make good new arms, they should've made good new legs! And even though the new skellie arms are too long to look real, but are at least posable, I can still live with them. The goblins will reconcile me! >:-) Although I hope they don't make a terrible head for em'. I can think of a couple! :-X And in response to what Yoda said, I agree that it is just starting. But BB DID say that this was the conclusion to the 2007 line. So both of you are right! Edited September 7, 2007 by trooperdavinfelth Quote
Batbrick Posted September 7, 2007 Author Posted September 7, 2007 Thankyou trooperdavinfelth :-) , I do think the fantasy element in this series does it lots of justice. It makes it expandable and diverges finally into the realm of fantasy! *wub* I still plan to get King's Castle Seige, but just from the pictures I'd say that LEGO went the right way in making a classic castle with a modern touch. And while many seem to think of Skeleton Tower as an "okay" set, I actually *wub* it! My biggest gripe about the whole line is the dragons :-X , but I forgive the Lego company because I know little kids love them. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 7, 2007 Posted September 7, 2007 I think this year's Castle line is simply fantastic - as a devotee of Town, Star Wars and wild West, I never would have predicted that by the end of the year I'd have nearly a complete Castle range - and that I'd be planning on scooping up the final two sets within a matter of weeks. I think the Skellie horses are inspired and although I also think the Skellie arms aren't quite right, I still love the figures themselves. As for the Dragon - it's gorgeous, and it's taken up near permanent residence on my desk. My children love it too. Dr. S. Quote

Batbrick Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 It is funny how that happens, I was going to by it just for a couple of skellies and now I must have them all! >:-) Same thing happened with the viking line, only I was too late......... :'-( Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Naww, the Viking line was the greatest line EVER! I mean, come on! Fantasy to the next level! Armored dragons, giant wolves, the Middle-Earth Serpent, baby dragons, teenage dragons, Viking army builders, it has everything a proper Castle line should have and I'm sorry they didn't continue it. But the new castle line will suffice for me. *y* *y* Quote
Batbrick Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 I managed to get the wolf set, mini boat set with baby purple dragon, and viking catapault with red dragon. Maybe one day I will get more :'-( ............ How many sets did you get of the Viking theme trooperdavinfelth? And just to keep on track with the conversation, what do you think is the best set of the theme? Many will say the Castle, but I will say The Crossbow Attack. It has so many elements: Weapons Archer Soldier Skellie Skellie Horse Crossbow for seige weapons. All you have to do is buy about 10 of those sets and you have your own small armies! *sweet* Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Brainbox Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 Brainbox, since you appear to have enjoyed that small set, do you plan on buying more? Possibly. By that I mean probably. I'm not sure which yet though, or when. Maybe when Argos starts it's Christmas price cuts, I'll see if I can snap anything up. It's funny, I kind of missed out on all the original Castle stuff, it was just dying down a bit as I was growing up. I mean, it was still there, but not as prominently as, say, Town. So I suppose this is my first real Castle line. Many will say the Castle, but I will say The Crossbow Attack. It has so many elements:Weapons Archer Soldier Skellie Skellie Horse Crossbow for seige weapons. And, of course, not forgetting the lovely Dark Blue 1x1 slopes. Quote
Joey Lock Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 I really do like this new castle line. I like the Prison Carriage because you get a Cool Knight and the new black skellie is intresting. For Whom it may consern i have added up the armys: Undead Skellie soldiers: 17 Undead Horses: 5 Commander: 1 Dragons: 2 The Royal Order Troops: 13 Knights: 3 Royalty: 2 Cavelry: 4 This is a add up of all the minifigs in every set of the new castle sets to make a army if you want. *sweet* Quote
Batbrick Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 Yes the skeleton carriage gives you the most for your money, it has five minifigs! *sweet* The Skeleton Ship Attack will be the last buy, it is a great set but the castle comes first and I have to keep money for other things. Ahhh yes Brainbox, the beautiful 1x1 slope! *wub* And I too mised the age of Classic Castle! :'-( With those armies added up, I might have to buy a couple more crossbow attacks to build them up more. 2008 sets better still have the knights and skellies. Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 8, 2007 Posted September 8, 2007 (edited) I bought the Castle today - and magnificent it is too. Just the Skellie ship to go! I've added a baseplate to the middle and installed the jousting equipment in there - I think it makes it more playable. Can't wait for my kids to wake up and see it, they'll have a blast. I've manned the Castle ready for an attack - there's some ominous lightning in the distance... *skull* Dr. S. Edited September 8, 2007 by Doctor Sinister Quote
Batbrick Posted September 8, 2007 Author Posted September 8, 2007 So it is easy to fit a baseplate under it then Doctor Sinister? I was hoping it would be a clean fit....... If you don't mind me asking, are your kids a bit young to build lego by themselves? Or do you just enjoy building them more? Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 (edited) Ideally you need a large grey baseplate - I think that would fit nicely, but I'm fresh out of those right now so I put a smaller green plate in the middle - it's wide enough for the back and front of the Castle to click on, and then I filled in the gaps to both sides with green plates and reinforced those underneath. Small piccy: To account for the small gap that then appeared around the entire edge of the castle, it's been filled with 2x1 grey plates, essentially raising the height of the whole castle by 1/3 brick height - I'll probably replace it with a large grey plate when I get some in which will hopefully save on having to mess around quite so much. And, my children are a little too small to build sets like this right now - plus, I'm very protective of my LEGO! They have their own, and occasionally I'll allow them to play with Tabletown, but the building is my privilege. :-D Dr. S. Edited September 9, 2007 by Doctor Sinister Quote
hollisbrick Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 I like this years line it is better than KK IMO. I really like the idea of skellies *skull* . Cant wait til next year. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 9, 2007 Author Posted September 9, 2007 Thankyou Doctor Sinister, I am also very protective of my lego. gee, there isn't as much space in the castle as what I thought 8-| ....... Batbrick Away! >:-) Quote
Piranha Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 :-D I can just imagine next year "2008 Castle Line:The conclusion" thread Hehe but hopefully by then there will be so many great sets that I can't even post in that thread As for 2007 Castle gets my vote for "Best New Theme" However SW still is "Best Overall theme" :-D I really wonder if the New skellies had classic skellie arms then they would look much better 2008 ON!!! hewkii9 Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Well for my King of the Dead fig I popped a new head on the old body and added some stuff- it looks nice. My thoughts- Pros-Great sets, silver helms, old swords, lots of good parts, more factions next year, good design cons-Skellie arms, no civilians, only 1 female fig [can't they fight as well as manfigs?] I haven't got Crossbot Attack yet- so there's still something to wait for. Quote
natelite Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 only 1 female fig [can't they fight as well as manfigs?] Umm, you must be of this generation. A century ago, most women weren't even working. The only working women are widows or from extremely poor family. If you want to be as close to medieval times, then yes, women don't fight. They sit around and wait to be rescued by daring men. :-P although in fantasy medieval, we do have warrior women, like those you see in the conan films. :-P Quote

If you want to get more, the boat is a must-have. The fortress, is, well, if you want a fortress, it suits the purpose fine. The later two sets are the best of the business. The battle wagon has a horde of weapons, and of Vikings, and it has a neat firing mechanism! I enjoyed building it. The Double Catapult is by far the finest piece of Viking siege equipment ever made. I extremely enjoyed building that one. I like the Crossbow Attack too, it's nice and compact, not too big, and it introduces the theme nicely! Quote
