legonerd54321 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 It could be a huge step-up for LDD designers. Think about it. Being able to edit or even create new projects on the go! How will you be able you to change youeyour current projects, though? With a LDD account. You log in with your account on your mobile device, and your library of projects would be there. Should this be a thing? Or will it not work? It may not work with small phones, with it being hard to place it exact and choosing the parts, etc etc. Quote
Happy SDE Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Once I heard that mobile devices are designed for content consumption. PCs on the other hand, are good in content creation (with precise input devices, big monitors and a lot of CPU/GPU power). So I can consider mobile apps as LXF viewers (for some model library in the cloud). Maybe as instruction viewer for the LXFs, but with big limitations to their display size. Does anyone has ideas, what is it possibly to do on mobile device applying to Lego modeling/simulation? Quote
Calabar Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I think that, at the moment, we will be happy to have an updated version of LDD for PC. A mobile version will need complete something near a rewrite of the software, and I think that this is out of question. At the moment the only LEGO cad suitable in a mobile device is MecaBricks. Unfortunately it's interface is not thought for mobile devices at the moment, so its use is not comfortable. Quote
Berry Allen Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 You'd be surprised what the new mobile devices are capable of. I think LDD Mobile could and should most definitely be a thing; however, slight changes will have to be made. Such changes would include: optional online account saves, touch screen controls, and making the backgrounds and each brick optional for download via in app download store. Toggleble poly resolution would be pretty useful too. Camera rotation could be done by holding 2 fingers down and dragging them across the screen. Zoom could be adjusted by using 2 fingers on the screen and changing it he distance between your fingers. The on-screen directional arrow buttons could be used to pan. Brick rotation could be done using secondary on-screen directional buttons. Holding down on bricks could be used to drag them. An external button would have to be added to the top right corner of the screen to place the brick or to undo the drag. Lifting your finger off the screen should leave the brick where you last left it while the finger was still on the screen. Rotating, Zooming, and Panning should break the dragging function as if the finger was released. Each of the panels (including Mouse Functions and Bricks) should be collapsible. Quote

Expand I believe LDD Mobile would work best on tablets instead of smartphones because of the screen size. Quote

Expand The fact is that LDD will always work best on PCs, followed by Gaming Consoles, followed by Tablets, followed by Smart phones. It would still be worth the opposition to have all capabilities. Minecraft is the best example, as it requires lots more powerful powerful hardware then LDD and yet it still works on every platform, even lagging much less on mobile devices then the even a PC. It's all in how you look at it. You have to consider the differences and adapt to them, ev n going one step further if possible. Ignoring this is the only thing that could result in LDD not being able to work. That's where my previous comment comes in. Quote
