Feuer Zug Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I built this 4 wide EMD GP9 because I enjoyed a recent ride in the cab at the Belton, Grandview, and Kansas City Railroad. This GP9 is done up in their colors. The TTX well car, coal hopper, and cabose were built for fun. While the detail isn't as great as a 6 wide, it's fun to play with around the house. The background is capable of being upgraded and lengthened to standard LEGO track for pictures of other engines and/or rolling stock. Quote
THERIZE Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 4 wide is definitely a different style. But i love it! For a 4 wide you have a lot of detail! Quote
cgarison Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Very nice work. The GP9 works well as a 4 wide MOC. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 (edited) Amazing and funny! I love your great work ...not only the locomotive but also the cars and that epic caboose! Edited June 19, 2015 by LEGO Train 12 Volts Quote
Hod Carrier Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Another 4-wide practitioner. Welcome along. That's a very nice MOC indeed. It's perhaps a little cutesy, but it's packed full of detail that makes it instantly recognisable. I like it very much indeed. I particularly like that you have it running on rails. What wheels are you using? Quote
zephyr1934 Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Excellent work! There have been a few other 4 wides posted here, e.g., as enumerated here, but I think yours is the first I've seen that fits a minifig (excluding deliberate narrow gauge). So it comes off as either a deliberate distortion of scale or a 1/4 scale model railroad (either way is good). Quote
dr_spock Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Neat. Nice work and details on engine and cars. Do you have a pic of the full train? Quote
Feuer Zug Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 I didn't build this setup with any scale in mind. It just has to look about right. The inclusion of the minifig was just for fun. Regretfully, I only have enough of the grey straights to make this little diorama right now. I guess I could lay some regular track and put a 'narrow gauge' setup inside it to lengthen it. As such, I don't have a full length photo. Maybe someday when I build a modern 6 or 7 wide diesel, I'll expand the background enough to shoot the entire train. Besides a modification of the Ghost Train and a small narrow gauge switcher, I haven't built any custom engines. As for the wheels, they are the Train Wheel Small, Hole Notched for Wheels Holder Pin (50254) Quote
Hod Carrier Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 Hi FZ, Thanks for the tip for the wheels. I shall be looking to see how to modify my 4-wide DD VIRM to sit on rails too. If that's a first effort I think it's very good indeed. As a GP9 caricature it works very well because the proportions are spot on, and the backdrop looks fantastic too. Keep up the great work. :o) HC Quote
