Takanuinuva Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 What is it with Lego and them not making Trans Purple 1x1 round Studs? I've seen 2 instances where they would have worked way better than the solid purple ones. Protector of Earth and Minecraft The Nether. I can understand that they may have not had the budget when making the protector of earth. But MInecraft The Nether is inexcuseable when the Nether portal uses a trans purple window piece but solid purple studs. They've made the round 1x1 studs in nearly every other trans color they have. Is trans purple too much to ask? Quote
Mesabi Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I read somewhere that purple is one of the most difficult/expensive colours for Lego to make. Stands to reason why we aren't seeing any trans purple studs. Quote

Is trans purple too much to ask? Trans. Bright Bluish Violet (the current Trans-Purple) has a certain quality that makes it perhaps less than ideal for certain parts. That is that unless it's backlit to some extent, it has a nasty tendency to appear totally black. Indeed, Lego's Power Functions infrared receivers and remotes have used that color for several years for the "shield" that allows infrared light to pass through while blocking out other colors. It's not hard to imagine that if the Nether Fortress set had used Trans. Bright Bluish Violet studs, their color would be mostly indiscernable against the black of the portal border (unlike the portal itself, which allows light to shine clearly from one side to the other). And absent their use for that set, I can only imagine that the ammo in the Protector of Earth did not present a compelling enough case for the introduction of a brand-new recolored element. So, in short, while Trans. Bright Bluish Violet would make a great color for 1x1 round studs, Lego probably hasn't seen a compelling case for introducing it when Medium Lilac is more vibrant and visible in a wider variety of applications. Naijel Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Other elements that are "missing" from their range surprise me more. E.g. a 1x8 brick in Orange would have been perfect for the large Chima Tiger tribe vehicle out now. Along each side it uses 2 1x4 bricks since there are no 1x8s. Then there is the 1x2 tile. I really thought they would produce those in Olive Green for the Chima line. Nope. Lots of other weird olive green pieces but not that simple tile. A more specialised peice is one of my favourite pieces: 51739 Wedge Plate 2 x 4. Dying for this in tan, olive green and a pale to medium blue or azure. Nope. Quote
