Siegfried Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Due to our self imposed 5 photo limit Hinckley and I had trouble showing all the details of our MOCs. I wanted to show better photos of mine straight after, but I decided I wanted to change some of the colours. ( :-X ) However, I realised that if I started doing that I probably would change too much, so here it is, in its Technicolour glory! Top front. The previously unseen top rear. 8- Quote
Brainbox Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Very nice, especially considering it was made with a limited array of parts. In fact, I think I like it more because of that. If it was just an ordinar MOC, I probably wouldn't be as sure about it. Definitely a tough-looking sci-fi style crew. The cockpit is nice and different, and the whol ship looks as streamlined as it could with the aforementioned cockpit. I liked it when I first saw it, and I like it now. And, you know, it reminds me just a little of the VTOL Skynet Terminator from Terminator 3. Probably the engines on the ends of the wings. The drop pod is pretty cool. Would it be right to assume it sort of glides/floats down to the surface on some sort of anti-gravity-spacey-thing? And it's always good to see red hair, I like red hair (unfortunately you don't see many people with it now). *wub* Quote
Hinckley Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Folks, so you know this MOC was built using FFLSM in a competition. We could only use these four sets: When Sinner send me the pics of his creation I was so impressed. I sent him an e-mail and told him how smart I thought he was...this is what I wrote: All right. I looked at yours. You Quote

The cockpit design was the first part I did, although it took me a while to make it strong enough. The top went though several re-designs. It never was meant to look like the T3 planes, but I do agree that there is a strong resemblance. Ooops! :-$ The drop pod is pretty cool. Would it be right to assume it sort of glides/floats down to the surface on some sort of anti-gravity-spacey-thing? Errr.... I never gave that much thought to be honest, but probably not knowing me. I don't like the concept of gravity drives or similar, so I would say it has an airbag system, similar to the Mars pathfinder mission. X-D How hard core would that be! 8- Quote
Hinckley Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I forgot to tell you about the new things I saw and really like! (I'm so far behind in my work and we had a septic tank emergency today so my brain is just fried!) This MOC is ten times more intelligent that I originally thought. I can base all of this on the landing gear alone. I'm just amazed by this. In all honesty, you really did deserve to win this especially seeing all the details you got in there. Mine is gun-laden blob in comparison :-D :-D :-D I wish I understood the mechanics of flight and motion the way you do. I love cars and boats but I never get into how they work. Look at you with your main engine and your thrusters...your drive shaft We Are Everybody! LOST fans, anyone?...anyone? I do have to say you did a better job than I did with the color scheme too. You really made it look relatively uniform whereas I just vomited color for the benefit of shape, which coincidentally didn't pay off. I love the black and tan of the main engine. Now to stop kissing your megablocks for a second. I don't like that the mini-figs aren't uniform. I'd rather see flesh or yellow and not mix in an anime head with the normal ones...I could also do without your hover thingy but I love the dropships! You're just a smart dude. I hope to become a better space builder and I'm glad I have you to learn from buddy! And I'm glad you don't charge for lessons...yet :-P Quote

(I'm so far behind in my work and we had a septic tank emergency today so my brain is just fried!) I've been busy myself lately, but it sounds worse for you. 8-| This MOC is ten times more intelligent that I originally thought. I can base all of this on the landing gear alone. You make it all worthwhile. :'-) I actually spent some time trying to design the landing gear so it actually worked. I actually wanted to make a tripod setup, but with the available beams I wasn't able to do it. :'-( However, I was happy overall with the main engine, I just wish that the blue wasn't so obvious! I do have to say you did a better job than I did with the color scheme too. You really made it look relatively uniform whereas I just vomited color for the benefit of shape, which coincidentally didn't pay off. I love the black and tan of the main engine. I really did try to keep the colour decently balanced. Hence the tan was at the front and back, and I tried to blend the reds in. I rebuilt the top at least three times. Now to stop kissing your megablocks for a second. I don't like that the mini-figs aren't uniform. I'd rather see flesh or yellow and not mix in an anime head with the normal ones... I think I am more neutral on that. I am happy to use the flesh for example, if you can justify it. In this case, I saw them as aliens! X-D I have also used a flesh head as Raistlin from Dragon Lance... I could also do without your hover thingy but I love the dropships! If you look behind the fighter jock on this picture... ...you can just see the hover thingy. That is how much I liked it! X-D However, the drop pod was made after I gave up on making a base, and it worked out far better than I expected. 8- Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Very nice. I find that it looks tres Lucas. I personally liked the various smaller ships, but the the drop pod is my fav. *wub* Quote
Asuka Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Very nice, very useable features and a cool front design. I Quote
Hinckley Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 re-build on! I agree with Asuka, throw this limited parts crap out the door and build this b!tch! Quote
Corvus Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 (edited) I think it looks excellent, not much to comment on, but I couldn't see where that "airlock" is. :-P Very nice, very useable features and a cool front design. I Edited September 2, 2007 by Mr. Mandalorian Quote

Hinckley Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I believe the Impartial deserves it's own thread... Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 tres Lucas? Yes! It looks like you took a page out of the great and holy chronicle of Star Wars. I can't wait for your rebuild. Quote
Starwars4J Posted September 13, 2007 Posted September 13, 2007 I missed this one too :-$ Oh the humanity For the Staunch: -I love that cockpit. it's something too many people don't put enough thought into, but yours is very original! -Landing gear! :'-) -The sensor package looks great! Maybe greeb it up a bit more? It's just great, there's so much about it that just meshes well, the cockpit is definitely the highlight. Maybe something more in the way of directional thrusters though? That's something I've been doing lately that i had neglected for awhile. For the crew...of course you have a fighter jock. *scoff* the jocks get all the cool jobs :'-( I love that robot by the way, it's so old-school in appearance it's friggin fantastic. You almost expect him to make an appearance on Astroboy or something. The sensor array...well... 8-| So the next part The food box is a neat little thing, nit's a shame you didn't show it off before! Poor merman :'-( The drop box is just slick, I love it! Any chance you could take a picture from the back to show what the hinge looks like? What if I bribe you with cute cat pictures? And what the hell is with this fighter? How'd you make so many neat little things out of those limited parts? *wacko* For something that size it needs either a smaller cockpit or a larger body, it just doesn't look like it has the machinery needed to power it, ya know? Also the wings are a bit flimsy...maybe beef them up a bit? This is really amazing though, from such a limited number of parts I'd be lucky to make even one of the things you did. I'm always in awe of people who build MOCs from such a small supply and this time is no exception, great job! Quote
Corvus Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 You got me there; there isn't one, it's only a hatch. Ha! Busted! Now my ship Impartial, that has an airlock! ......Show off! >:-( Yet... It's beatiful! *wub* I don't think the dark grey of the cockpit fits well with the light grey of the forward wing. Quote
Siegfried Posted September 16, 2007 Author Posted September 16, 2007 -I love that cockpit. it's something too many people don't put enough thought into, but yours is very original! The first part that I worked on was the cockpit. I wanted to make the ship look like a space version of this. It took me several redesigns before it was strong enough. -Landing gear! :'-) -The sensor package looks great! Maybe greeb it up a bit more? Thanks. I tried to add some more details to the sensors but my parts were quite low at that stage. Until the last minute Staunch had no weapons, but when I gave up on making a mech I turned the arms into guns and added them to the front... then I decided to integrate the sensors and weapons. Maybe something more in the way of directional thrusters though? I was never 100% happy with the thrusters. I redesigned all four several times so they looked as integrated as possible, but ultimately I would have prefered if they were not transparent, and I wanted to add ones to the side as well. I love that robot by the way, it's so old-school in appearance it's friggin fantastic. You almost expect him to make an appearance on Astroboy or something. I never saw it that way! :-D I started at the wheels and went up, and I was very happy with it considering its simplicity. He will probably be enhanced, possibly even with legs. 8-| The sensor array...well... 8-| That was a badly done homage to my old Radar in the Navy, AN/SPS-52C. I have made a better version of it years ago past... ...but still not very good. :-P The food box is a neat little thing, nit's a shame you didn't show it off before! Poor merman :'-( Well it was there, it was just too small to pick any of the details in the photos. :-D The drop box is just slick, I love it! Any chance you could take a picture from the back to show what the hinge looks like? Well there's nothing to see actually. :-$ The top lifts off and is re-attached on the top. No hinges, sad to say. I can still take photos if you want though. Well as I said, small ships aren't my style, and I suppose it shows. I agree the cockpit is too big, and yes, there really isn't enough void space in that ship. Impartial, for example, I deliberatly didn't allow myself to use the internal space along the sides so it had room for the stuff that makes it go. That thing must run on love or something. :-D This is really amazing though, from such a limited number of parts I'd be lucky to make even one of the things you did. I'm always in awe of people who build MOCs from such a small supply and this time is no exception, great job! Thanks very much for you comments! I look forward to what you say next time... 8-| I don't think the dark grey of the cockpit fits well with the light grey of the forward wing. It is due for a re-design. When I made it I had far less pieces. I now have enough of those engine pieces to do them all one colour. Quote
