El Wray Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Hey! Recently made an introduction thread after I stumbled upon the forum. I've been collecting minifigures for a few weeks now, been a life long fan of legos but really put that aside and now starting to get back into it at 27 mind you! I really want to start working on MOCs and just building stuff for sh*ts and giggles.. What's the best way I could achieve that? Buy seperate pieces from bricklink? Try to find assorted bricks sets on craigslist or in garage sales? I'm a bit lost. Thank you! Quote
Darkdragon Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 When I got back into it, I bought a couple very large unsorted lots on ebay to quickly bulk up the collection. Then I started watching for sets on sale and ordered parts as I needed them for builds on Bricklink. Ebay is harder to do now that there are so many more resellers, but if you are careful you can get a good start on having parts to build with. If you have a nearby lego store, Pick A Brick wall is good to get some bulk stuff as well. To get back into building, I'd suggest joining a community group here. Right now we have group/team building in History, Star Wars, and Scifi. Quote
Nacho Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Might be also worthwhile getting a couple of Lego sets new so that you can see the latest techniques and pieces used. A lot has changed over the years! Quote
HawkLord Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I think honesty diving right in is the best approach. Within a budget, though. Look at specific lines you're interested in, maybe wait for sales, consider those Classic sets of bricks Lego has started making, maybe even some PaB stuff, and check out your local Lego store if you have one nearby. Literally the sky's the limit, so there's a number of options that could be best for you. Most importantly keep it fun... Quote
Eilif Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 A few new sets will get your excitement going, but I also agree that acquiring at least a few batches of bulk brick is a very good idea. Check the link in my sig for ways to find cheap LEGO in bulk. If there's a LUG near you, you may be able to get in on a LUGBulk buy. When I was getting back into the hobby I made offers on other forums (in my case wargaming forums) offering items folks on those forums might be interested in in exchange for bulk (often flat-rate boxes full) of LEGO. SEE AR AR THREE Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I'm 44 and I just started collecting Lego hardcore five years ago. Quote
Legotom Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 If your wanting to MOC buildings then getting a modular building, or one of the Simpsons sets. They're a good start, and will show you some interesting building techniques. Quote
Covenant84 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 I started again a year ago by buying several of council of Elrond set without figs to get plenty of tree parts and natural plates, also got lucky with a couple of decent ebay bulk lots. no settling down a little and using brick link and lego store for specific bits for a couple of projects. however temptation to start collecting poly bags and minifigs has seriously dented my budget... gotta get a grip! rahziel Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 «Gotta get a grip», now thats something very hard to do, also "re-started" a little while ago... Buy some sets as said before to get to know some building technics, and then for lots of parts you go bricklinking. Quote
Lego Dino 500 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 It depends on what you want to build. If you're wanting to get started with trains, I recommend the current 60052 City set. It has all electronics, plenty of track, and several train bases, wheel sets, and couplers to get started. If you're wanting to go into vehicles and buildings, I'd start with one of the Creator sets, or a modular building, depending on your budget. Quote
