Hi guys, i seem to have come out of my dark ages, and into a world of purple trees and sparkly gems. My daughter, with some careful "guidence", has discovered lego. Elves mainly, but she also loves the friends disney stuff too. To my eternal shame shame i really like the elves stuff too, reminds me of the nightelves from warcraft 3.

Either im looking in the wrong place, or no one else shares my new affliction, as i cant find anyone else discussing them. Where would the best place be? IM torn between historical and adventure, but both of those arnt perfect. Where is all the other elves fans?

What's shameful about an AFOL liking Elves? I wasn't wild about it at first but seeing the upcoming 41077 Aira's Pegasus Sleigh and 41078 Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle, I can't wait to get those. I got 41075 Treetop Hideaway recently and really like the purple foliage and general color scheme.

It's a pretty childish theme oriented mainly to girls.... It's like buying a barbie

So its "Friends" but I have some of them. And for the record I do not have any "Elves" yet. But if I can find a deal on them I would get some sets.

I like the new Elves stuff too. I've got 4 of the first wave of sets. I wish the Friends/Elves minidolls had legs that articulated individually and were a little less skinny and big-eyed, but they are still cool.

There are plenty of women who enjoy primarily boy-oriented toy lines like Transformers, LEGO City, or LEGO Bionicle, and society doesn't shame them for it. Why should men enjoying a girl-oriented toy line be any different?

I enjoy the Elves sets (the colors are great, and I love the little animals with designs on them), and the Friends sets, and Lord of the Rings sets, and Super Hero sets. I happen to have a small collection of My Little Pony figures and stuffed animals, but also a collection of Star Trek action figures. There is nothing wrong with anyone, of any gender or age, enjoying anything that doesn't harm someone. Even if Lego or other companies label things as "girl toys" and "boy toys" or that it's recommended for a certain age, having fun and enjoying the things that you like is great and healthy.

And, to the original poster, I think it's great that you get to spend Lego time with your daughter. I certainly wish my parents would have done so with me. I hope you continue to have fun with the Lego Elves (and maybe even make an awesome Warcraft 3 MOC for your elves :D ).

Uh, ultimately please remember it's LEGO. The main idea of these themes were meant to declare that LEGO is neutral for everyone. If you try to escape from part of it then you'll never get it. The best thing is that your child's parent shares the same interest so that you two can have the same topic.

Great stuff guys. I was being slightly tongue in check about the "shame" of elves. Its very cool, i love the colour combinations and my daughter loves it. We put together Elsas castle, Repunzels tower, Naidas spa, and Farrans thingy, on a big baseplate. She (we!) had a blast. I picked up the deep sea explorer ship for a bit of "manly" action, needless to say my daughter was all over it. Considering Elsa and Annas parents were lost at sea, they have some good sea legs!

Pegasus (pegasi?) chariot next, then maybe some piratey goodness. The lovely thing about her being young is she dosent try to pigeon hole stuff. E.g only city stuff works together, or only Elves stuff can play together. Which is ideal for me, as it means i can buy anything, under the pretext that its for her! Hurrah!

Just a clarification about the barbie post I made: I wasn't judging anyone.

I was just trying to exemplify why someone could be ashamed of buying a LEGO Elves set. :classic:
