Slurpifier Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I thought it was enjoyable. Some downsides to it, where I wished it focused more on the actual Lego business, rather than the sub-plot of Mark as an AFOL and his journey in making his dream a reality. I don't disapprove of this, (I did like it!) but things like that would be more suited in a different documentary. I wished we could have also seen a bit more of the designing process, even if it was for sets released last year, and even if it was staged. Events like that answer our questions on what goes in to designing the set, and what makes it the final product. I did enjoy the sub-plot of Justin and his journey into being a Lego Set Designer. If I am honest, I've never seen someone with so much passion for loving Lego. Quote
alois Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I think it was a good question, asking if it is a cult. When everyone is overly positive about something, and overly friendly, and one encounters so many zealous followers, I would always start to suspect there's something cult-like going on. And let' s face it: maybe we are really in a cult. Quote
wendyw Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I finally got around to watching it last night and it was interesting, but I definitely got the impression there was a strict list of things they were and weren't allowed to discuss and I don't just mean company secrets. Also it would have been nice to see more of the design process, if not things people were actively working on then things like sketches and sculpts and prototypes for existing items. Quote
Boxerlego Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Pretty neat documentary about LEGO. Tho the secret world of LEGO appeared to be more directed at the AFOL community involvement with LEGO. Quote
PaddyBricksplitter Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 It was pretty good. The secret cult angle was a bit heavy handed. I'm pretty sure there's a much more indepth documentary about afols on Netflix. Quote
KlodsBrik Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Just realised that this will be showen on danish television TV2 in 10 minutes. Sorry for upping, but it just might be someone in Scandinavia or elsewhere have acces to this channel and wants to watch it as much as i do ! EDIT: Watched it and i liked it. As its based on TLG offcourse they couldnt focuse on "us" to much. As much as they mentioned AFOL´s several times, it was more about how the corporation works toward their goal of expanding and getting every child to be part of this love for LEGO as we all share. I do feel that the show was accurate, i do feel that they did get as much info out as possible throughout those "few" minutes it lasted. I loved the part about how LEGO should be considered to be a cult, a religion, a family or an philosophy. Its something we ourselve choose. Personally, ever since i got involved with EB and some other sites some 5-6 years ago after my stepson wanted some LEGO for his birthday and i found this whole community, i lurked for some time just to se how this was not like most other communities on the internet. I do really honestly consider this to be like a family. There is not so much megablocks going around in the LEGO community as one will find on many other franchise sites. Mostly people are backing each other up. Giving new ideas and are kind to each other. Thats also the reason why i myself found a new love with LEGO. Besides the freaking adrenalin rush of building something that i myself felt was awesome ! I liked the show and can only advise others to watch it as well. (2nd EDIT: ) ROFL ...
