Zepher Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 [Log Entry II - Lorstan II] I've been planet side for a little over a week now, and have settled into my routine. The job is simple (painfully so, I am sure once I have gone off to further lands a robot will be tasked with it). After scouting and affirming the existence of several small isles I was airdropped a number of desalination tanks which I set up quickly and easily in six different locations. I now spend my days traveling between all six of my locations, making sure that each machine is running as it should. The work is mind-numbing. There has yet to be a problem, and I have yet to run into another human soul - nay, yet to run into another living thing. It rains most days, but today I have been blessed with some meager sunlight peaking through the clouds. My favorite site - my de facto home - is at the edge of a small forest of tall black bamboo (what it truly is I cannot say, but I will call it bamboo for lack of a more scientific label - there is much work to be done on Lorstan once it is made livable). I sleep here most nights, and am kept company by some of my favorite authors. Though I've yet to have direct contact with any of the pilots who air drop my supplies and the like (I send a transmission to corporate and they see to it that my needs are filled) they have been kind enough to honor my requests for literature and green tea. I stand now staring at the ocean as warm liquid seeps into my belly, and though my mind is abuzz with the great words I've read today I am reminded instead of a poem from my childhood: Water, water, everywhere, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, every where, Nor any drop to drink. [End Log Entry] [i think I need one more shot from one more angle (to best show the desalination machine, for my own pleasure) but the sun has left me, so it will have to wait until tomorrow]. Quote
Graham Gidman Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) The water feels a bit too messy in some areas, but I like the rest of the build! Very nice work, man! Edited June 4, 2015 by Graham Gidman Quote
narbilu Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Cool, bright thinking of how to create the water effect Quote
shmails Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Nice, this has a very alien planet feel. Well done! Quote
Zepher Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 The water feels a bit too messy in some areas, but I like the rest of the build! Very nice work, man! I agree. I think it ended up being too messy, but I wanted to create the effect of "choppy water". Does anyone have any advice on how to accomplish this? Most LEGO seas I see are pristinely calm. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Lovely build Zeph! I love the black bamboo (did you get the old Jaba's palace set too? ) The poetry is, again, excellent. Your character is a pretty chill, zen kinda guy! Also I love how you describe the world. Raining every day. I can imagine the black bamboo is very soggy! I agree. I think it ended up being too messy, but I wanted to create the effect of "choppy water". Does anyone have any advice on how to accomplish this? Most LEGO seas I see are pristinely calm. I know exactly what you mean. I hope to try out an idea I have for an ocean in my Alien Competition build, but I haven't had the time to start figuring it out. I looked at the Lego Movie's rough sea scene for inspiration. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote

Honestly, I really like the blue and white areas, it's the different colors and pieces that bother me the most. Quote
