merman Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Looking at instructions for SW set 75094. Lego has started to draw the slots in the Technic beams again. Not checked the other instructions... because Lego took them offline again. But I also checked the Ferris Wheel instructions where I notice the same thing (although they forgot the blue 5L beams). Lego omitted these slots a few years ago so kids could read them more easily but to me it always looked ugly. They found a compromise. In the boxes that show the parts needed for each step and in the 1:1 views the beams are shown without slots. Best of both worlds and I hope they will continue with this process. Here is the link to the instructions of set 75094: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6131099.pdf Update: instructions are back online. Set 75106 has the old way of drawing. The overall resolution of the instructions also has improved! Thanks Lego! Edited June 2, 2015 by merman Quote
talos Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Kind of hard to know what you're talking about from your post... I think a lot of the online instructions are pretty poorly executed. I think they did an auto scan, and save in PDF format. Then no QC on the product. The contrast is pretty bad for a lot of the old sets I have tried to get the instructions to build. Dark brown/black/dark red are barely distinguishable. Luckily there are other sources for some old sets. I got some much better versions from the 'LetsBuildItAgain.com website. They don't have everything though. Quote
Prairie Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 (edited) Update: instructions are back online. Set 75106 has the old way of drawing. The overall resolution of the instructions also has improved! Thanks Lego! I had thought that the horrible pixellated digital instructions must have been to thwart companies who make exact copies of LEGO sets. I couldn't grasp how they could otherwise have allowed them to be so bad. But the newer instructions being better invalidates that theory. Edited June 6, 2015 by prairie Quote
dr_spock Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 I think they kept the file size small back then when many people were on dial up or paid by the kilobytes for Internet. Maybe lower res to encourage people to buy the set for the real printed instructions. Not too long ago when they stopped providing printed instructions for Technic B model, the B PDF instructions for Technic sets were high-res but the A model PDF instructions were low-res. Quote
