BalrogJ Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone! [EDIT : you can now see the real-bricks model at the bottom of this page!] After seeing Mad Max : Fury Road (awesome!), I got a familiar itch to build something. Since the iconic vehicle of the protagonist doesn't show up a whole lot in the new movie, I decided to pick the model from the older ones. At first I tried to follow the pictures really closely, but as I went on I added some little stuff here and there as I saw fit, that's what usually happens when I make MOC's hehe. I've seen a few other MOCs on the same model around, including one on the very first page of this section recently, but my goal was to make one that'd be scaled for minifigs, to display next to the DeLorean and Ecto-1. I sadly don't have the bricks to do it right away so I had to order what I needed from Bricklink, but for now you can see the end result in LDD. Let me know what you think Edited June 20, 2015 by BalrogJ Quote
Praiter Yed Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I think the overall shape is very good except I find the transition from the windscreen to the roof to be a bit jarring. It's that sudden flat edge where the tiles are connected to the trans-clear slopes, maybe it would look fine in the brick? - But everything else looks so smooth and dynamic. It's hard to think of an alternative that wouldn't need some radical alteration to your design, for example SNOTing a standard Lego windscreen like this then building the roof off it? Maybe this piece would work? Or, perhaps this in LDD as a subtle transition from your slopes into a slightly more shaped roof (sadly not available in black). Hope you don't mind my comments - it looks good as is, but perhaps it could be better, either way it's certainly a better vehicle than I could hope to build. Quote
BalrogJ Posted May 29, 2015 Author Posted May 29, 2015 (edited) Thanks for your comment! I actually tried the wedged roof on LDD and I didn't go with it because it was too narrow (4 studs wide when the car is 6 studs wide), and when I flipped it horizontally to use it like that, it ended up too short (not going far back enough)... plus it made the roof more curved than the model. Also, it means that the car will have studs on the top, since that part doesn't exist without the top 4 studs I also looked at several existing windshields and I had my eye on the one you linked but it once again didn't look enough like the model because it is too "deep", but I'll experiment with it some more. As for the Spider-Man chase link you provided, that's some great idea for using a windshield that I'd never seen before, I'll make sure to use that in my further experiments! Thanks very much! BalrogJ Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 I've made a few modifications to the Interceptor based on feedback and my own observations, but I'd like the opinion of other people to decide what looks more fitting to the MOC. I've modified the windshield from using 3 2x2 trans-clear slopes to using an actual windshield, but it's not entirely faithful to the movie car because the angle of the slope is too small, but it does give the car a more aggressive look and that's a good thing I suppose.. Also I've changed the side mirrors from using that prehistoric method to using something actually a bit more subtle (I took the idea from the small City cars I got for my son hehe). Please help Max decide which would be better for him! Quote
BalrogJ Posted May 30, 2015 Author Posted May 30, 2015 I'm certainly glad you appreciate it enough to want to make it yourself For the moment it's only in LDD and I made it in my own special way, meaning "I'll stick that brick there and see if it works".. so I'm not yet 100% sure how functionnal the build I made in LDD is, and what will need adjusting with real bricks. Once I've finished the actual build, I'll remake it in LDD by following the steps I really followed, and if it works out I'll post the instructions. Quote
BalrogJ Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 Hi again everyone! After much patience, I finally have all the bricks I needed to assemble the Interceptor. I had to make a few tweaks and adjustments but it's more or less how I'd envisionned it and I'm happy with it, which is what matters really. Without further ado, I'l leave you with the pictures.. I'll appreciate any and all comments! Quote
