(Lost and) Found Lego

Over the last couple of days I've found a few pieces of Lego on my travels, and I thought it might be interesting to see what others have happened upon over their time.

In the park two or three days back I happened upon a dark red 2x2x2 cone (3942c) with a grey flick missile shaft (61184) stuck through it.

Then today in a parking lot I found an Elves hair piece, the light blue/darker blue one? (19201pb01).

I brought them all home and washed them up; they had obviously lived in those places a while. None of them are damaged (a few tiny scuffs on the cone, and some paint wear on the hair), but they were all quite dirty!

So what about everyone else? Any interesting Lego finds in your travels?

That's pretty cool. So far I've only found my own LEGO that got misplaced, like occasional random pieces in unrelated boxes of stuff from when I was a kid.

I found a 1x4 brick on a playground when I was a kid. Then, about a year ago, I ran across it in my collection again when I was sorting through all my parts.

It was a Megablock.

I found a LEGO Movie skele-bot with the stormtrooper 'drum' helmet from the 10236 Ewok Village on its head! It was amazing! Also, on the same day, I found a Headless Chrome Gold C-3PO! I must be lucky, or whoever forgot them there is rich and lucky…

When I was a kid I lost half of the robotic arm from my 6848 Strategic Pursuer. That was outdoors of course. I searched and searched, but didn't find it anywhere where I had played.

About two years later or so, I somehow found it in the exact place where I had played with it. It was pure coincidence. Apart from a little dirt, the pieces didn't even show discoloring.

That way I had learned some valuable lessons. 1. Don't play with the sets outside. 2. If you take it outside, take extra care.

Now I had it all back together and didn't have to deal with half a hinge plate in my collection.

Found a massive green flame piece in a car park a few years ago - I did pick it up and keep it, but it's so badly scuffed and scratched I've never found a use for it...

I found a Wolverine head, Magneto's torso, and 2011 Kai's legs on the side if the street a few terms back. Wolverine face print was scratched up a lot, but it was nothing black paint couldn't fix.

I've found small leaf, 4x4 pink plate, 10x10 octogon plate, and a few other pieces here and there inside Walmart. Like someone opened a box, possibly for shoplifting and scattered a few pieces. Also I've found a few pieces outside and once I found a 2x2 tile and a 1x4 arch in Goodwill, I think it may have come out of a loose or open box because I never found any boxed LEGO.

The earliest find I can remember was a 2x4 black brick at my high school. Oh way back in maybe '82 or '83 when my high school was hosting a faire of some kind open to public. I was not 10 yet. (and I did attend this same high school years later)

Many years ago, there house owners in the street where I lived rented a roll-off dumpster for throwing out old stuff once a year. We kids loved to play around in/on the stuff, and sometimes you could be lucky to find something useful. Like a LEGO road sign warning about construction work going on. Unfortunately I did not find more, if I remember it right. But later on I have found other small stuff, including a Fabuland figure.

Nothing valuable but I have found a couple of bricks.

I once found a blue 1x4 brick in Parco Ildefonso Schuster in Rome. I was just wandering under a tree and found it in the grass.

I also found a red 1x2 brick in the street in Nottingham.

Both slightly scratched but still usable.

They are both in my collection now.

Well lets see, I found a red 2x4 brick, a 2x unknown broken jumper plate and a 2x4 blue slope all at my high school

I've found some pieces at the YMCA pool that I frequent. I guess some kids like to take their toys with them to the water. I've done the same in my youth but with the bath... and the family fish tank.

Found so far:

• chrome light-saber hilt (badly worn) with trans-green rod.
  
  
• yellow 1x2 slope with 4 slots. The lower side of the slope has a hairline crack, which I think is common.
  
  

I feel that all Lego bricks are precious and useful, even when damaged. At Lego stores, I see workers sweep pieces on the floor into a dust tray and I hope those pieces don't go into the trash.

polywen on Flickr took a few photos of "in-the-wild" found LEGO. I think it's an ongoing project, but he must've not come across any lately.

It is kinda fun to make up stories about them. For the dark blue cylinder, I imagine it was a gift ring given to a first love or close friend, but it was sized too big, so the ring fell off, or...the love died early in a scornful rage, or the friendship withered over angry words exchanged at recess, and the ring was painfully discarded.
