jonwil Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 I am working on a MOC project for the next club display and I want to put something that moves in it. But I dont have any motors I can use, the only motors I have are 2 x 9v train motors and 2x PF train motors. Does anyone know if it would be fesable to use the PF train motor (which just has axles running through both holes and then train wheels on that) as a stationary motor connected to something moving? Would I be risking damage to the motor if I tried it? Would it provide enough power and torque to work? Or should I just bite the bullet and buy an (expensive in my country) Power Functions motor box? Quote
bonox Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 it's lego - use the parts where ever they'll fit. I grew up putting 4.5V train motors into aircraft, so why not! Quote
dr_spock Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) You could use the PF train motors if that is all you have. Really depends on what you're trying to move with it. You can use the train IR speed control and IR receiver to control the speed of the train motor. If you need more torque or speed, you can make a gear down or gear up drive train. Works with tires too. Edited May 21, 2015 by dr_spock Quote
jonwil Posted May 21, 2015 Author Posted May 21, 2015 Yeah the problem is that I don't have an L motor. Quote
RohanBeckett Posted May 21, 2015 Posted May 21, 2015 (edited) random video I found on youtube.. Yes.. it's very easy to use the train motor for other things - it's awkward shape is going to be your biggest issue Edited May 21, 2015 by RohanBeckett Quote
