john cleese Posted August 23, 2007 Author Posted August 23, 2007 (edited) you fool you dont publicly admit it! Now well have to send omega force after all the witnesses, and get these last two posts out of here! Be sure to lock em up in the vault where they wont be found. No scratch that. Lets burn em and implant everyone with chips that cause them to shut up! But first we'll unite the pirate forum and space sub forums and then combine all the forums into one superforum, then our dream will be fullfilled, and we'll call the shots because everyone will be chipped with a EBID chip that will contain everyones post counts, ranks, avatars and SIGS! >:-) bwahahahahahaha. And what will congress have to say about that... nothing! Because they arent interested in a lego enthusiasts forum. yes nevermind, that was nothing people, omega force will be with you soon, so just hold tight ok? andy_0306uk Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Conspiracy theories are just like religion. There are numerous book proving and disproving everything. It's all about what you beleive and what you put faith in. If enough stories are told and people believe them, they become gospel/folk lore. Who's "evidence" do you trust? Is the holy books of whichever faith you believe in true accounts of what actually happen? Did these events actually happen or are they stories equivelant to modern day urban myths? Billions of people follow different faiths. Often these faiths contradict each other. Who's faith is correct. Exactly the same as propoganda, conspiracy theories and the like. We trust. We believe. We question those that question that trust and belief. It's your mind. It's your beliefs. You have the freedom to make your decisions. Use that freedom. Others are not so lucky. Quote
john cleese Posted August 27, 2007 Author Posted August 27, 2007 you know i thought about it and i still nonetheless, think america and canada being one nation is a horrible idea. I mean basically the effects would be the same if they invaded. We would probably lose healthcare. Our education system would be very much like th american one (and they have poor grade point averages). We would lose our status and high regard the world over. Crime would increase and the meager respect we already have for the french canadians would be even less, prejudices against other groups would increase aswell. In Canadian politics we also seem to have a good balance of communist and capatilist philosophys that will be lost due to our assimilation. And what of the CIA, do you really want an organization like that? What about phone tapping, we dont have that here? Dont you care about any of these values Gyl? If not then what are you doing in Canada? Quote
gylman Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Yikes John, you've been reading too much propaganda by the Canadian media and your US hating high school teachers (who are all union members and vote left wing). First of all, I don Quote
john cleese Posted August 28, 2007 Author Posted August 28, 2007 I did indeed know who Kim Campbell is, and i was going to use that as a retort when you were talking about the presedential candidate Hilary Clinton, but i thought Campbell was in there atleast as long as Joe Clark. when i was talking about prejudices i was speaking more in terms of groups like the KKK and aryan nazi extremist folks, and those who seem to be in high density in the southern areas of the US. In regards to education, you spoke about Universitys, which are privately owned. I was speaking in terms of the US public education system, as it has been lately. and we have Mc'Gill, which I thought would be in a list of 20 universitys. However my last two social teachers did alot of american bashing and often riled us up in frivolous debates, so my views may have been askew. Quote

However my last two social teachers did alot of american bashing and often riled us up in frivolous debates, so my views may have been askew. Actually McGill was 21st! So, almost there. But the private vs public thing is not really meaningful. The bottom line is what kind of product comes out of the country. In general, and forgive my generalizations, my impression is that publically supported and controlled things tend to be more homogenously average, while the private system has greater highs and lower lows. I think that does kind of describe much of the difference between the US and Canada. Canada has plenty of hate groups. They are not as public as in the US because the US has greater rules protecting freedom of speech and association. One could argue that it's better to have the haters visible in the open on youtube than hiding in secret chat rooms in Canada plotting god knows what. You are stereotyping Americans though, especially in the south. Its probably not fair to do that. Quote
