Hi everyone, I'm just after a bit of assistance on space requirements for a monorail.

Basically I have a long sideboard in my 'playroom' where I'm building a modular street. I was hoping to loop around this a rail or mono rail track. I have the required length but the depth required for the train loop is too much, I'm hoping the mono rail is smaller.

Can anyone advise?

Basically looking at something like the right hand side of this picture, I need to know how many studs are required from one side to the other! Or even if the loop could be made even smaller?

Thanks in advance :)

The monorail doesn't have to loop though as the station switches can be set to 'ping-pong' the train back and forth. So instead you could simply have a long, straight track. Granted it means a not very interesting track but it might work better for a long, narrow layout. Instead you could use the ramps to make it go underground or from street level to high level and from the airport to the city and back.

As far as I remember the monorail curves are R32, so a complete half circle is 64 studs wide.

That seems about right to me.

The curves are the same length & width as the length of the long straights.

Excellent - thank you all for your help.

@MECHALEX - I didn't realise you could do that. It certainly opens up more possibilities now.

Thanks

If you have a fat "J" at the one end of your shelving you might be able to get a loop in there so that you can have the train change elevations and complete the circuit as a subway / ground / raised level, it would create more purpose for your line.

I'm now thinking of a bigger plan - I might raise up my modular street and have this pass under them through a tunnel. Will certainly be a decent big project for me :)
