Thomas_w Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I've noticed on this forum some members have a sort of selfie minifigure that they use to represent themselves in the Lego world. A while ago my partner went to work in Vancouver for a year and I gave her a minifigure version of myself to keep with her, while I had one I made resembling her. People thought that this was very cool and recently a friend of mine asked me to make a version of her, my problem is that she is of Indian descent. I understand that Lego started producing flesh coloured figures to represent real people, my suspicions are that making Lego Lando might have catalysed this change and I have to say I do like the flesh coloured heads. However, I am finding it hugely difficult to find a head to represent an Indian woman. The closest I can find is this version of a Clone Wars character "Stass Allie" She unfortunately has purple eyes making it pretty much unusable for any real person. Part of me is embarrassed to return to her and say I am sorry but the biggest toy company in the world doesn't have a head that could represent you based on your skin colour, but I know really this is a reflection of society at large. Lego seems to make licences based on what is popular for children and this lack of diversity in the minifigures is only really a representation of characters in popular media. To get to the point, is there any head that can represent my friend? Any custom site that could do this? Quote
Tomahawker Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I have never used them, but minifigs.me is in the UK, and can create customized minifigures, including fully bespoke minifigs (if your budget will allow). http://minifigs.me/shop/premium-minifig-lego-based-on-a-photo-or-description/ Actually, the head you found looks pretty good to me. I would think it would be relatively simple to change the eye color. P.S. I do not work for and am not in any way affiliated with minifigs.me Quote
Hoschiebaer Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 have you missed out on this head? its from storm of the marvel superheros line Quote
deraven Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) I was also about to suggest Storm's head... but it might be hard to find as an individual item: http://www.bricklink...P=3626cpb1218 The other thing I would suggest in this case since, as you mentioned, the sad reality is that there are basically only those 2 options, is recoloring a flesh or yellow head. If you can find a head with the overall features you want, you could probably get acceptable results with a marker or dye to darken it. A little more info here for inspiration if you decide to try that route: http://www.finecloni...yes,_&_More.pdf Edited May 4, 2015 by deraven Quote
Thomas_w Posted May 4, 2015 Author Posted May 4, 2015 Thanks for the replies everyone. I had totally missed the Storm head out. It actually might be the one to go for in this case. Hopefully as times change and more women and different skin tones are included in these types of licenses (Star Wars and Marvel I am looking at you!), Lego will hopefully follow suite and give us a few more tones / female options to pick from. One would expect if Lego makes some massive headway into building market share in Asia and India then this would happen more rapidly! Quote
Sandy Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I've noticed on this forum some members have a sort of selfie minifigure that they use to represent themselves in the Lego world. They're actually called "signature minifigs", or sigfigs for short. Selfies are those pictures you take of yourself with a phone. As a minifig collector, I am definitely looking forward to seeing more racially diverse minifigs in the future, too. Especially women of color are severely underrepresented in western pop culture and media. Stass Allie and Storm are a great start as minifigs go, and we have several women of color in the minidoll side, but we need more. I need more! Quote

I cannot seem to find a Korean (style) female head for the life of me. Maybe one day... Edited May 4, 2015 by Legocity2713 Quote
