Best tracks for Emerald Night Train?

Hi, I'm a beginner to Lego trains and just bought an Emerald Night and I'm not sure if 8867 is the way to go? or if other tracks are compatible? which tracks are those? I apologised if this has been asked before. Thank you for all your help.

Hi.

All LEGO tracks that are 6 'studs' wide should work just fine.

(8 studs with the 'ballast')

First I would like to say Welcome to Eurobricks and welcome to the train forum!

Honestly any track Lego has made for the trains theme (Not including duplo) will work. For the most part I would use it the new RC/PF track available today just because it is easy to get, but if you had trains when you were younger you can run it on those tracks too.

Yes, as long as you're not trying to run 9v train engines (which get their power from the metal rails in which case that's what you need to use), all the track is compatible.

I wanted to chime in and add that, because Lego is based on an awesome System, regular Lego trains will actually run on Duplo track- the train wheels sit on the outside of the rails instead of inside, but they fit and run. Of course, they don't connect directly with the other types of track, but I thought it was interesting. Discovered that when one day I came downstairs and my kids had some of my train cars running on their Duplo train setup.

On a note: The Flextracks is mostly the worst tracks, as their tracksion is much worse that the normal tracks, du to the 'air' so they can flex.. Avoid them, if at all possible.

But 8867 and 7499 except 7895 are all flexies? I don't see any other options?

Are me tracks exactly the same looking and does the colour match Lego tracks 100%

I take it me tracks are cheaper?

ME Tracks should be same color, but you can choose different ballast colors!

The price should be ok.

Actually, ME track has the same profile as the much older 4,5-volt/12-volt track from the 80's and earlier. I actually like it better for that (and the large radius curves) and I'm seriously considering it, like a lot of you guys

I was comparing with 9V track but you're right, it's very close to the old 4.5V/12V track although as far as I know the ME rail is slightly wider than the 4.5V/12V rail.
