MiloNelsiano Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 (edited) Osric's Tale Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14 Chapter 15 Chapter 16 Chapter 17 Osric sat in the throne room across from his father, Lord Orys. The Farwinds of Oros weren’t a typical noble family, and the appearance of the throne room at Valley-View Keep was no exception. Since the beginning of their Lordship over the territory of Oros, the Farwinds have maintained that Lords should lead their people, rather than rule them. In the throne room at Valley-View Keep, there were two thrones, which faced each other. In the one throne sat the Lord of Oros, and in the other sat petitioners as they brought requests and concerns before their Lord. Osric had just finished explaining to his father of his findings on the Old Road from Meldrim. “This is rather disturbing news,” Orys concluded once Osric had finished. “The shipment to Kaliphlin is of upmost importance. Even in the best of times, an undelivered trade shipment can stress Guild relations. We keep receiving updates on the situation in Kaliphlin, and every day things look grimmer. We’ll send another ship tomorrow carrying the late shipment, plus as much additional food and goods as possible.” “That certainly seems to be in order,” agreed Osric. “You will go with the shipment so that we might fully know the needs of our neighbors to the south.” “But, I—“ started Osric. His thoughts were only on the enchanted forest giant, and the mage who must be responsible and still at large. “What of our own troubles?” “Cain and Jace will soon return. They’ve found no sign of the dwarves, who seem to have returned entirely to Mitgardia. They will be able to deal with any other problems that arise. Besides, you should bring this chain you found on the giant with you, and seek someone with knowledge of it. Someone as the University will certainly know something.” “What of my work at the forge?” The Farwinds all worked as common laborers, as they believed in leading their subjects by example. Osric worked as a smith, while his father Orys was a farmer. “There are enough other smiths in Oros to take over your work,” Orys answered with a frown. “You should bring Christine with you. I’ve heard of a school of sorts for…artistic folk like her.” Christine owned the smith where Osric worked. She painted armor and shields at the request of customers, though since Oros had no coat of arms, she didn’t have many interested in her services. “She can’t leave,” Osric said quickly. “She runs the shop at the smith. She—“ “She has no place here,” Orys interrupted. “Do you remember the story of how Olaf Farwind first came to Oros?” Osric remembered it well. Olaf Farwind was the first Farwind to be Lord of Oros. When he was 8 years old, Olaf’s father was a high lord of sorts in Mitgardia, and served as the advisor to the King of Mitgardia. However, the king was greedy, and Olaf’s father merciful. The king became jealous of the people’s love of the Farwinds. The king thought it was the Farwinds beautiful coat of arms that inspired the people’s love. In his jealousy, the king ordered all Farwinds be killed at once, and then took the Farwind’s coat of arms as his own. Olaf escaped in a small rowboat that he rowed along the coast until he was out of Mitgardia. He then landed in Oros where he accepted a job as the then Lord of Oros’ gardener. The lord and his lady wife had never been able to conceive a child, but they immediately took a liking to Olaf. Soon Olaf was named as the heir of Oros. The people of Oros were outraged, and many refused to follow a gardener as their lord. However, when Olaf continued to work as a gardener while being Lord of Oros, they instantly loved him. They had never known a lord to make himself equal to his subjects. Because of this, the Farwinds have always continued to work as commoners. They have also taken no family coat of arms or colors, and have a general disapproval of art and beauty, thinking it was this vanity that brought the ruin to their family in Mitgardia. Osric had become quite close with Christine, and had been considering courting her. He found her artwork beautiful, but was embarrassed to say so, as he was raised to believe art and beauty to be unimportant. However, Osric knew it was not his place to defy his father. “I remember,” Osric answered. “ When do we leave?” “Your ship will be loaded in the morning, and you will leave as soon as it is prepared. You will land in Barqa where the cargo will be sold. If our reports are reliable, they will likely be willing to pay ten times what the food is worth. However, Oros will not take advantage of others’ misfortune. Be sure it is sold at a fair price. From there you will travel to Petraea. Christine’s stop is a town named Ruadh, shortly before you arrive at Petraea. Send word of your travels as often as you are able to.” “I will, Father.” Osric replied. “I never expected such a task, and I fear I’m not fully prepared.” “You are,” Orys said rising from his throne. “I would not send you if you were not. I will be in the fields when you leave so I will be unable to see you off. I bid you farewell, Osric.” With that, Orys left Osric alone in the throne room to think of the task before him. I apologize for such a long story for such a simple build. Thank you to those who read it all! For anyone who didn't, the throne room is very plain and boring, as the Farwinds find beauty poinless and vain. I hope you enjoyed! C&C very welcome! Edited November 13, 2015 by MiloNelsiano Quote
LittleJohn Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Excellent little scene! I really like the way you did the floor and the chair design is neat as well Quote
Gideon Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Very nice floor! Only nitpick is that I think the windows are too big to be medieval, maybe some kind of grid in front would have looked more medieval. Quote
