ymp Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 **** This thread is from my original topic posted in HK. **** All you know that the Republic Gunship 7163 is an expensive set which costs $HK3500(EURO$350) for MISB. I found $1 bid in web and won at HK$2300(EURO$230). Of course, the box condition is not 100%, just 70% new. But it is still MISB which the seal tapes are still in place but about to break. I am not sure is there any one open it before. I worry. How to make sure the minifiugures are still inside without open the box? Front: Back: Corner A: Corner B: Tape A: Tape B: Fortunately, with the help of my friend, I took it to for CT (computed tomography), a kind of Xray machine, I not so sure. After scanning and 3D reconstruction, at least 3 helmets of Clone Trooper EP2, 2 battle droids and jedi's hood are shown. It is a happy moment! PS: I think at the search of the Golden C3PO in USA, people even use fibreoptic camera to look for the treasure as some people reported their boxes of SW LEGO have been opened a small hole (Sets were bought from Toy's RXX). Big Pete Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 If you weren't going to open it and build the model why did you buy it? some collectors buy sets in the box ... hence the MISB phrase ... doesn't appeal to me, as they're damn expensive boxes! But hey, each to their own ... :) Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Wow! Lucky. That has to be one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Quote
Shadows Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Ok, when I read the first post I thought, "..." and then your xray followup turned it all around. Very nice! I too am a bit confused about why it won't be opened. I mean, it's nice to keep a set boxed, but the box isn't really that hot, so it's resale value based on that isn't particularly strong. Opening it won't make a lot of difference and would have saved all that effort. Quote
Siegfried Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Nice photos! Thanks for posting this. If you weren't going to open it and build the model why did you buy it? Well I don't get it either, but there are a lot of people who do this. My attitude is if you want an investment, buy shares! Quote
yellost Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 If you weren't going to open it and build the model why did you buy it? That's something I've never quite understood either... I mean, if it's an action figure that you just want to exhibit in some kind of window, sure, why not... the package usually lets you see it without needing to open it, but isn't the whole point of LEGO to actually build the thing? Personnally, just looking at a plain cardboard box is kind of boring... Beside, why not buy it empty, then? it'd be a whole lot cheaper for the same result... Easier to move around too, since it'd be lighter as well ;-) Quote

Really can't see the point in having Lego but not building it Each to their own I guess Loved the original topic btw - especially the CT scans Quote

SWMAN Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Thats a pretty cool idea. Use x-ray to see if there are mini-figs in your win. Very intereseting. Of course, the thing with the C-3PO's and people using X-Ray would be cheap, so luckily everyone doesn't think of that. Quote
natelite Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Best suggestion yet! Much more practical than weighing the boxes. Gotta go buy a spy camera and check out all the summer sets in TRU! Quote
Order66 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Lucky you i still need a republic gunship and want one pretty bad :-| Quote
Wout Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Nice pictures. I hope there are not hundreds of Afols who want to make photo's like that. It will be a long wait for the hospital. X-D Quote
yellost Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Lucky you i still need a republic gunship and want one pretty bad :-| That's what I find the worst, really... I want one really bad too... And HE isn't even going to OPEN his box!!! Quote
ymp Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 That's what I find the worst, really... I want one really bad too... And HE isn't even going to OPEN his box!!! Let me explain much more, the set was the most expensive set I ever bought (at that time) but the price was greatly different from the market price. I afraid I was tricked. So that I investigate the box with X-ray first. One more thing, I bought another box of 7163 later which the box was opened but the polybags are still sealed. Hence, I would build that set and keep the MISB 7163 for a while. Quote

Hey Mike, here is someone as crazy as you ;-) :-P Heavy duty technology ON !! *yoda* Yeah, I had negotiated the use of airport x-rays, the "loan" of all the SW-sets from "my" shop for 24 hours and THEN - Gold C-3PO not for Europe >:-( >:-( >:-(!Well well, the negotiating worked at least X-D!
