Olof Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) Hey guys what do you think about my new lego creation? Please follow this link and take a look. https://www.youtube....h?v=ieCcbiTtpps It´s a lego tourbillon clock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieCcbiTtpps Edited April 6, 2015 by Olof Quote
Kiwi_Builder Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 This is crazy! I see lots of people do things like this but I have no idea as to how you manage to make Lego do things like this, without a motor too Well done and welcome to Eurobricks Quote
Olof Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) Thank you Kiwi_Builder! I checked out your bricksafe page and i must admit that your house moving truck looked really cool. Edited April 5, 2015 by Olof Quote
TinkerBrick Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 This is a really nice creation. Would it be possible to decrease the speed even further? This would allow longer run times. Quote
NathanR Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Very impressive! I've always been fascinated by clock mechanisms though I haven't a clue how they actually work. How does the rotation of you mechanism correspond to the actual time that's passing? Also, how long does it run for before you have to wind it up again? Quote
Olof Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Thank you TinkerBrick and NathanR. You could decrease the speed by adding weights to the balance wheel or change the gear ratio between the pallet fork (part of the watch) and the balance wheel. This would require a longer hairspring and unfortunately i don´t have one. I haven´t timed the rotation so i don´t know how it corresponds to the actual time. The weight has a travel length of 1 cm per second, as mentioned in the video. if you have a 60 cm drop it can run for 60 seconds. Quote
Olof Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 Please let me know If anyone else reading this also have built a tourbillon and if so do you have any pictures of it? Quote
Kiwi_Builder Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 I checked out your bricksafe page and i must admit that your house moving truck looked really cool. Thanks mate On this post you can get some more info on that truck: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=104708#entry2108100 I'm hoping to post a new truck to go with 42030 in the next week or two Quote
Jeroen Ottens Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Very ingenious creation and a very smart use of the Exoforce lighttube (or whatever it's name). Why do you have to wind up two wheels? I guess one is to raise the weight, but what is the other for? Quote
Rockbrick Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Absolutely brilliant I ilke the ingenious blance hair spring Quote
Olof Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 Thanks Jeroen Ottens and Rockbrick. The middle wheel is used to wind up the weight. One of the other wheels, from which you can hear two "snap" sounds, is used to disconnect the tourbillon from the weight for easier wind up. The third keeps the weight from falling down when the tourbillon and weight are disconnected. When wound counter clockwise the escapement starts (the tourbillon starts spinning). Quote
