Sariel Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 You can't call yourself a WW2 tanks builder without tackling the tank that was so ugly and underperforming that it almost got scrapped, can you? :) But the tank that got us the working 131 Tiger in the Bovington museum deserves some love, so here's my attempt at modelling the Churchill at 1:25 scale, with focus on creating effective suspension system and using standard PF elements only (no Micromotors, no 8878 battery). It's not perfect, but I guess it meets my essential goals and it's fun to drive through park, terrorizing sane people. ]Photos & reading: http://sariel.pl/201...churchill-tank/ Quote
Nalyd997 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Why not share the goodness of using common pf elements by making instructions for the mechanics (turret and chassis) if not just some pictures would be good. I loved the editing of the video as well good job as always Quote
Sariel Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 There's plenty of pictures at my website, link is in the first post. Work in progress pics, too. Quote
Nalyd997 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Sorry about that, haven't read the article yet:) Quote
plew2000 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I like the world of tanks theme for the video. And the individual wheel shocks are a first. Overall 10/10 Quote
wangyuovi Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) same to me,There's plenty of pictures at my website, link is in the first post. Work in progress pics, too Edited March 30, 2015 by wangyuovi Quote
braker23 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 OMG, I was thrilled by the World of Tanks HUD in your video, it felt so much like the "real" thing. Tank builders out there, THIS is the proper way to present a MOC! And that torsion bar + rubber connectors combo is pure genius, as it allows more wheel travel, I bet it will become a common suspension technique from now on :) Quote
jorgeopesi Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 First I thought it was the game and after I thought it was tente , nothing more to say . Quote
miguev Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) I'm not a fan of tanks, but your work on them always amazes me :) Edited March 30, 2015 by miguev Quote
Sariel Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Great review, I'd certainly enjoy more of this :) I have fond memories of the 1991 bike and didn't think twice when found a 32007 in a store, best LEGO Technic dirt bike ever! Wrong thread, my good sir :) Quote

Sariel Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Well, what is it that you can't see, maybe I can help? Quote
TheRacker Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 (edited) Well, what is it that you can't see, maybe I can help? I was just more curious of the internal mechanics, seeing where the 4 motors were, how you routed power to the treads, stuff like that. I can just see one motor and a few sparse gears in your two pictures. It's not that I want to copy it, I just like seeing how things work. Edited March 30, 2015 by TheRacker Quote
Sariel Posted March 30, 2015 Author Posted March 30, 2015 Sorry, can't help you at the moment. I simply don't have more photos in progress, guess I should have taken more. Quote
Kelkschiz Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 OMG, I was thrilled by the World of Tanks HUD in your video, it felt so much like the "real" thing. Tank builders out there, THIS is the proper way to present a MOC! While I agree that Sariel made an outstanding unique video, and i wish I had thought of doing something like that, copying a good idea doesn't make it nearly as good. Also, Sariel has been at it for quite a while, he has an extensive skillset, so even if I would want to copy it, which i don't, it would be very difficult for me to it as well as he did. I think that for any serious video maker it is much more important that you try to develop your own style. In this case though i am a little jealous of Sariel for thinking about this first. I think its those evul hamsters of his who come up with all this brilliant stuff. Damn you Sariel!! And kudos :). Quote

doug72 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 There is an excellent owners workshop manual on Churchill tanks published by Haynes. http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=57561&langID=-1 This shows all the varients of which there were some very weird adaptations called the "Funnies" including bridge layers, mine flails, petard launchers etc. Quote
Sariel Posted March 31, 2015 Author Posted March 31, 2015 Ah yes, I believe I've seen it somewhere but it seemed a bit pricey. Thanks anyway :) Quote
DrJB Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I always thought/found the gray parts (all shades) rather boring. Glad you could put them to good use. Quote
