andy_0306uk Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Hi from Andy in the UK Lego was always a favourite of mine as a kid but then there were the dark Lego free years from the age of about 13. But 3 years ago at the ripe age of 32 I rediscovered my childhood Lego collection and started about increasing it. Have been mainly concentrating collecting new Lego sets from S@H, ToysRUs and any discounted sets at local toy shops (hard to find these days). I don't stick to any particular theme and have built my collection up to 500+ and always looking for some bargains. Recently have been amazed at some of the City themed MOCs, especially those shown at the large exhibits held in the US. Would love to be able to afford the vast amount of bricks needed for those creations, let alone the hours/days/weeks/months to enjoy/develop the ideas. Are there any events in the UK held by AFOLs, apart from Legoland Windsor? My wife doesn't share my interest in Lego but my son is showing a keen interest at the tender age of 2! Would love to hear from other UK AFOLs Andy Quote

Siegfried Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Welcome! Another member, yay! I wonder if we can make 2000 before next month... My wife doesn't share the same interest in Lego as me but she is extreamly tollerent... Quote
Warren Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Andy, Hello! There are a good few AFOL events (not as large as the US ones of course), organised by Brickish - the UK AFOL club. hop on over to www.brickish.org for more details. Unfortunatly, the public part of the website is quite sparce, but check out the following folders for one of the clubs' biggest public displays: http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=27913&t=i&v=a Where are you based in the UK? captaintau Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Welcome, fellow Brit. I'm hoping to do the official EB/Denmark event next year. Failing that, I really think an EB/England mini-event would be a great idea Quote
Brainbox Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Hi. I've never been to Leicester. It's always great to have more Britons here, seeing as how we come from what seems to be the back-end of beyond compared to the rest of the world... Failing that, I really think an EB/England mini-event would be a great idea Oh, yes please. Trouble is, you've only got Windsor, which is difficult (or at least hard) for a lot of us to reach. See, people just don't think about the North when building attractions, do they? :-D Quote

You're right, no-one thinks about the North. Why would they? All the best bits of England are in the South! :-D Quote
Shine Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Considering the vast amount of basic bricks needed for large city MOCs, as well as your purchasing places, I'd say you don't know about Bricklink do you? Anyhow, welcome to EB. :-) Quote
andy_0306uk Posted August 6, 2007 Author Posted August 6, 2007 Where are you based in the UK?Warren Thanks for the link Warren. Very impressive display During the week I'm based in Hatfield, Herfordshire (due to work) but at weekends I'm up in Leicester. Yourself? Has anyone ever done a survey on here to find out the general locations of people to see where would be a more central location for an event/meet? Andy Considering the vast amount of basic bricks needed for large city MOCs, as well as your purchasing places, I'd say you don't know about Bricklink do you? Ah yes, Bricklink. Have used the site for set refences/inventories a few times but never bought anything from there (yet). Can never get used to the pricing in $ and never sure if I need to convert to Quote
Brainbox Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 (edited) Windsor's really easy to get to from the North: straight down the M40 or M1. I meant in a sense of time, money, etc. as opposed to literally getting there. You're right, no-one thinks about the North. Why would they? All the best bits of England are in the South! :-D *raises eyebrow* ;-) Has anyone ever done a survey on here to find out the general locations of people to see where would be a more central location for an event/meet? Dunno, probably not. But that's not a bad idea. Edited August 6, 2007 by Brainbox Quote
