omegabob Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Does anyone else remembers a website from the late 90's called Castle World? It was a site where members could post their custom Lego castle/fantasy minifigs, MOCs and stories in a shared world. I went looking for it the other day but couldn't find it (even after going several pages deep on Google). Does anyone know what happened to it? Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'm pretty sure it's offline: http://z13.invisionf...World/index.php There's only some info left on Lugnet, but that's totally outdated. Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 You might be able to find the comics on Brickshelf. Quote
omegabob Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 That's a shame that Castle World is gone. I wonder if anything has "taken" it's place? Granted at the time it was up the Internet was quite different than it is today. I would guess that most people now would rather set up their own sites than use a shared one since it is so much easier/common now. Not to mention forums (like this one) that have a custom area for people to start their own threads and display MOCs and such. Quote
Ludzik Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Something like this maybe? http://www.classic-castle.com/forum/ http://merlins-beard.com/ Quote
omegabob Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Those look interesting. I'll have to dig into them deeper. Thanks for the links. Quote
omegabob Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 I think I found what became of Castle World and while the site is still up, it doesn't seem to be very active. http://z13.invisionfree.com/Castle_World/index.php?act=idx Still has some links to Lego Castle Themed comics and stories that could be worth combing through. BrickJagger Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I stumbled across that site once, and it's really too bad that it's no longer in use. It had the potential to be a big site, but alas....... Quote
omegabob Posted April 6, 2015 Author Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) I did prefer one of their previous versions where there were links to the contributors (balladeers as that site calls them) and images of their custom minifigs and other creations. As the internet has evolved I guess the niche that a group contribution site like Castle World used to fill is pretty much gone as it is easy to set up your own site or just use a free image hosting site to link to. From what I've seen in Guilds of Historica and the amount prints and parts available now (thank you Lord of the Rings and Hobbit) I would imagine Castle World could have a large and varied population if it were still running.
