I didn't know about it either until one day :-D

I also just recently ordered a whole bunch of rare or special parts from MagicBricks!!!

Piranha

Oh, that guy. Anyway Magicbricks is the woman I pointed to in several posts for rare parts. Excellent service, fast shipping, etc.

Of course she does, who do you think I bought the red and clear ghost from? :-D

As for that collection, I don't consider most of those rare parts. You haven't seen mine yet ;-) Though that is a nice collection of cats 8-

Who's collection is this???

I actually choose her after seeing the nice things you said and others *y*

*sweet* Can't wait for my order of rare parts!!

Piranha

Those are some rare parts, but others (such as the flute, chrome mug, some animals and minifigs) which were in that collection you showed I don't consider rare since they were in regular production sets. That I don't consider as rare...so I didn't take pics :-P I may do something like that eventually though.

-Black beard

-White plants

-trans black jewel

-red exo force hair(is that a test mold?)

-black axe

-dark red hat

-whole bunch more

Huh? The trans-clear greatsword is selling for $6 now? She jacked up some of her prices a little, most seem the same though. I don't see the white plants in her shop anymore though.

You have to be careful, some things there ARE mislabeled as "special part". Before you buy something because it's a "special part" you need to make sure it is :-P Check to see if there are any sets where that part is available in that color, if yes it isn't truly a 'special part' ;-)

As for what I consider rare...really any part that didn't appear in any set, or VERY limited promo sets.

Hmm the black Halberd Elaborate wasn't a special part but oh well

Niether was the dark red castle helm but still very cool

Or the Dark red trash can

Everything else was really a special part *sweet*

I look at 'rare' in three ways.

Production Rare: Appeared in 1 set, probably 1 piece total. Could be anything. Never made again, but could suddenly reappear.

Special Rare: Limited run, hard to get, never seen again. Anything is eligible. Example: Chrome C-3P0

Shouldn't-Exist Rare: Test runs, mold cleanings, employees who make things on their lunch hour (uh huh, tell me that's never happened). Parts that are in colours they don't belong in. Anything from the Red Ghost to the Red Vader, with stops at kepis and such inbetween.

Honourable mention to really old parts that didn't get much production but seem useful. Like this:

Always seemed like a neat part, for only being in 1 set and 1 roof parts pack in the 60's in blue, and 3 '60-'72 sets in red. I managed to find a blue one in a big box of old 60's parts and am glad to have it. It's still $1-2 cheap, price isn't always the point.

Speaking of which, I'll tell you what I want, if anyone sees it. Other colours of lightsabre handles. Any other colour. ANY. Like, all of 'em. I hope that was clear enough ;-)

Edited because: Italics aren't the same as images.

You can get the same effect with these two pieces:

Try as I might, I can't manage to recreate the 2x2 footprint of the original part, but I did manage the general shape with a double of each (4 parts to do the job of 1). Problem is, that gives me a 3x3 which is just entirely different, so it's disqualified. *n*

I mean, what if I only had a 2x2 space to work in, huh, what then smarty pants? :-P

And my part is a prettier colour than yours. X-D :-| Oh no, what have I said? 8-

I racked my brain trying to figure out how those two pieces could get the same effect... and then I realized you have to use two of each. :-$ :-P

[Edit] Nevermind... I'm stupid. :-| [/Edit]

Although using those two pieces won't have quite the same effect, because they're taller than just the one piece.

That reminds me of a LEGO promo brick seller I've dealt with on Bricklink. He has a museum set up with people walking around admiring the various bricks. It's quite effective.

Regarding rare bricks, on some occasions it's possible to order custom orders I heard from some people. But it requires quite huge amounts of parts. If you want a specific part which does not exist in a certain color, you can TLC make produce it. But it will require you to order 1000 parts or so *sweet* (don't ask me for the exact details though :-P )

i like these definitions *y*

the only thing i would add is that with the "production rare" pieces there need to be another division for "production rare" pieces that are in discontinued colors, like light gray, dark gray, or brown. those are production pieces, never to be produced again >:-(

--------------------------------------------------

i also would love a complete list of "shouldn't exist" rare pieces. but compliling somthing like that would be nearly impossible, id bet.
