Phantom59 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 I am wondering why alot (90% +) instructions I download in pdf format from Lego Customer service are blurred or dark even when you zoom in. Quote
dr_spock Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Probably to get you to buy the set for the clearly printed instructions. Interestingly the B model of some new technic sets PDF instructions are crystal clear. Quote
Meiko Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 It's because they're low-resolution JPEGs, presumably for the reason dr_spock mentioned above. I do miss the time when LEGO instructions used vector graphics. It was always cool being able to have logos and graphics in scalable vector graphics by extracting them from PDFs. Quote
weavil Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Some of my daughters sets have dark brown bricks and the instructions we got lost. It was hard to tell what brown goes where on what brown, both physical from the set and online version. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I always thought they do this to prevent people to copy, print and sell them. Quote
Freekysch Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) l was wondering the same thing a few weeks ago when I was building a Technic set. It was very hard for me to buils the model when the instructions were so blurry. What is the purpose of making those pdfs if they are si low quality ? Edited March 8, 2015 by Freekysch Quote
MAB Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Probably to get an idea of the build before purchasing, or to have a rough guide available if you lose them. Unfortunately some people sell CDs of instructions downloaded this way. Quote
dr_spock Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I've used the PDFs when rebuilding sets that I parted for making a MOC. It's faster than digging out the printed manuals from storage. I guess if you have built the sets before from following the printed instructions, it is not hard to remember what the parts are and where they go looking at the low-res PDFs. Quote
talos Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I save the PDF files and then open in Acrobat Professional and then zoom in, for the most part, I can see the colors better. I tried printing one set out on my laser printer and the colors were hard to distinguish. I think the printer had the wrong color set or something. I just zoom in instead on the screen now. Trying to use the PDF in a browser is not a good idea. Quote
