Hi! This is my first proper MOC, at least what I consider to be the first proper one, since I didn't use any official instructions at all. It is of Honeydukes of Hogsmeade, of Harry Potter fame. I built it to look like it was winter, as Harry visited it first time just before Christmas, however, he is not hiding under his invisibility cloak. So it's more likely to be a later Xmas. I got inspiration from the many wonderful Winter Village MOCs, the Lego computer game and my imagination - the way I saw Honeydukes in my mind's eye when I first read the book. I used only the bricks I already had, and consciously made the decision not to buy any extra stuff after it's ready, just to see if I could. I discovered I really don't have enough grey bricks, I used almost all of them up in the fireplace. Also, I really need more tan SNOT plates.

I had a helper - my daughter, 6, who was very eager to do the building with me. So, to avoid a major tantrum, she built the little things outside, with some instructions by me. She also helped to furnish the inside of the shop.

Christmas is coming to Hogsmeade, and Honeydukes is doing a roaring trade, especially because of all the students shopping on their free weekend.

A local witch is delivering more boxes of sweets.

A local wizard decorating the Xmas tree, while Dumbledore is looking longingly at the display in the shop.

The inside of the shop, however, not really the look I intended it to have for playing...

... because I built it to be opened up.

Opened view. I am not really happy with the floor, because, as I said before, I haven't enough smooth tan plates. So I had to resort to using any tan plates I could find in the end, and a few dark yellow and gold ones.

Right side of the shop - with the display window. At the moment, sugar quills are all the rage. Ron is choosing some Fizzing Whizbees, and Harry wants to get Bertie Bott's Every Flavour beans. Also in the background the fireplace I am really proud of.

On the left side - with the door - you can see Malfoy going through Liquorice Wands, whilst Hermione decides which Cauldron Cakes to buy. Dumbledore is upstairs at the Sugar Mice barrel, and behind him are the Jelly Slugs. Unfortunately I didn't have any brown frogs, so green had to do for Chocolate Frogs. (I think they are wrapped anyway!) My daughter's contributions were the Mia minidoll as the shop assistant and Malfoy's girlfriend *huh* buying the best Sugar Mouse.

Thanks for looking, hope you like it!

tuskel,

sincerely

Very nice! I think the floor is fine, the jumper plates and brown/gold pieces help break up an otherwise monotonous surface. It also leaves plenty of places to stand minifigures! One other thing I noticed, the white arch seems to be a bit too low for minifigures. Maybe raise that up a brick or two?

Oops! Just realized that arch piece is actually connected on the bottom, so raising it up wouldn't actually do anything. Making the doorway taller would require a different piece.

Yes, this came from 4723 Diagon Alley Shops - the first wave of HP sets. It is just about tall enough for minifigs to go through - without the tall wizard hats of course! I don't really have wizard-y doors, apart from the orange and purple one from 4721 (Hogwarts classrooms), so this was the better option. I do understand about the jumper plates, and I did try to put them in places where minifigs could stand to appear to get something from the shelves/tables, but there were too many of them. And I did attempt a pattern with dark brown 2x2 tiles thrown in... Although in the end, after all the people and things went in, you can't really see much of it anyway.
