Grosse Kind Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Hi. Is there a way to get part numbers from the parts you select in LDD please? Have drawn a design and having hells own trouble working out how to look up the part #'s to order and build it. I used the word descriptions i found on a few sites that identify brick designs on the net but i'm headbutting a wall. One made of bricks. Not plastic ones but clay. Also, if a part is shown on LDD, and can be changed to another colour, is that a verification that somewhere out there such a part exists in that hue and is procurable even if its rare? Thanks for your time, glen. Quote
Calabar Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 If you select a part, the Design ID is showed in the status bar on the bottom. Besides, you can: - export the BOM (Bill of Materials) of the whole creation - examine the lxf file with external software (for example LDD Manager, at the moment a bit out of date, but will be updated soon) and obtain the list of bricks. Note that the IDs are not unambiguous. Different databases uses different IDs. For example if you mean to buy the bricks on bricklink, you need to convert LDD IDs to Bricklink IDs (for example using LDD Manager or BrickUtils). About part's colour, the Extended Mode allow you to colour a brick with every colour available, even if that brick has never been printed in that colour. LDD don't provide a way to check if a colour is used for a specific brick. Anyway you can check your model with LDD Manager, that should contain an enough affordable list. Otherwise you can check manually each part with bricklink or other online databases, but it could be a huge work. Quote
Grosse Kind Posted February 24, 2015 Author Posted February 24, 2015 Thankyou. Later works may be more of a nightmare which is why i'm glad theres a way around this. The current project is composed of only 24 but even those are proving fun to track down. I'll check the programs you mentioned out. Again, thanks for the patience. Quote
garethjellis Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 You can also import the ldd file direct in to brick ficuebcy and search BrickLink for the best prices on parts. Quote
Grosse Kind Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Thankyou fellas. The BOM seems to be to my rescue thus far. Once i sort the WiFi out on the laptop i'll check out the programs you mentioned. Slight hiccup: the BOM shows part numbers in the colour i want for certain parts, but google turns up nought. hoping as you described, the manager one will reveal all once i get onto it. A very slight variation on an moc i saw but hoping the parts exist to make it. Quote
