xwingyoda Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I realize the TIE Crawler is from the Expanded Universe, but does anyone know specifically where it's from? Like from a novel, video game, comic, Lucasfilm-branded shampoo, etc.? I'm just curious. SW Databank answers your query ;-) The TIE crawler first appeared in the Dark Empire comic series. It was not really seen in action, but was instead visible as a peculiar wreck amid the rubble of Coruscant. Roleplaying game designers at West End Games built a backstory and technical summary of the TIE tank in the accompanying Dark Empire Sourcebook. Also, does anyone else giggle when they read the phrase "blackhole trooper?" It sounds kinda dirty. Is it just me? It's just me, isn't it? You do have a sick mind X-D :-P *yoda* Quote
Piranha Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 The Proper name is Shadow Stormtroopers, but were also called Blackhole Troopers because they served under the agent "Blackhole" ;-) But who cares they still are awesome *wub* :-D Piranha Quote
Joebot Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 So we got a set based on a background in a single panel of a 15-year-old comic book. And the ship was wrecked in the image. Wow. That's really freakin' obscure. I realize Lego has had this license for almost ten years now, but that is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. And yeah, Shadow Trooper sounds a heck of a lot better than Blackhole Trooper. Regardless of what they're called, they do look nice. The silver and black is very slick. Maybe they're Oakland Raider fans? Quote
aayla-secura Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 btw , how long will lego have the license for SW? Quote
Athos Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 This set (like most of Star Wars lately) just doesn't do it for. This one, however, is particularly bad. Personally, I'm quite sick of building the TIE cockpit over and over again. Also, as this vehicle was never seen in the movie, I've got no idea what it is or what its supposed to do. I'm also not real fond of the figures. Black storm troopers... mehhhh? Again, not in the movie, so I don't know what they are and am not really interested. I'm also not real keen on the color-scheme. They look too much like a bad cross-over comic of Spiderman and Star Wars to me... Venom meets Vader... Steve Quote
yellost Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I may be wrong there, since I haven't really played it but I think the Tie crawler is a playable unit in the Empire at War video game as well... But it's still an obscure ship from the EU... I mean, there are a lot more famous one to pick from... But still, it's a nice thing they go EU, that means we'll have some really new ships soon instead of redesigns (but don't get me wrong, redesign is good, too... most of the time... no, I'm not thinking about that third snowspeeder... well, I'm trying anyway...) I think it's because these EU sets like the TIE Crawler don't hit that same nostalgia button that an X-Wing or a snowspeeder does. This TIE Crawler may as well be a Mission to Mars set for all I care. Plus, this is now the SIXTH freakin' TIE configuration (fighter, bomber, advanced, interceptor, drone, crawler) that Lego has made. Stop it!! Quote

Well, you can't really blame TLC for having so many different types of TIE... ;-) They're not the ones who invented them... Quote
Wout Posted August 3, 2007 Posted August 3, 2007 Well it's not that bad, but I don't think I will buy it. Years ago I bought the tie fighter (2002) and that was nice and only +/- 30 euro. But this is too big for me. For this price I will buy the new Jedi fighter with Kitt and Obi-wan instead. Maybe if it's for sale. Quote
