HJR-Holland Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) It must have been about 10 years ago when I came across this small speeder bike in a Star Wars Marvel Comic (nr 55): Leia and Chewbacca use these when they are on the planet Arbra to find a new location for the rebel fleet, and encounter the Hoojibs. At the time I copied an image from it on my computer; never thinking it would be possible to recreate this small, round vehicle in LEGO pieces. But lo and behold when LEGO came out with curved pieces a few years ago; t'was possible! So here's my version of these nifty speeders. Q: is that a 1x1 with studs on all sides in red? A: Yes it is. And no, I don't have a clue in which set they come. But they are available on Bricklink, albeit very expensive ($2 - $3 each) Enjoy! Edited February 7, 2015 by HJR-Holland Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Cool speeder bike copy.......hmm, I wonder why they never appeared in any of the movies (the original looks to be a 70's design). Brick On 'HJR-Holland' ! Quote
HJR-Holland Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 (the original looks to be a 70's design) The comic was released in October 1981 :-) Quote
tman684 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Wow, those look awesome! I'm very curious to know where those red 1x1 studs on all sides came from, since they're not in any sets Quote
HJR-Holland Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 Wow, those look awesome! I'm very curious to know where those red 1x1 studs on all sides came from, since they're not in any sets Well, they're red so it might be a testrun of a new mold (LEGO tends to use the colour red for that) and I had actually expected for this part appearing in a Q1-2 LEGO set. However, up to now I haven't seen a set with this part in this colour... Quote
TWP Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 They look nice! Quite good recreations of the source material Quote
Steel Tiger Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Is it me or does that look like the speeder bike seen on the preview for The Force Awakens? Quote

Kelso Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Never seen those before, they look really nice! Quote
Kristof Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 Cool speeders. I like the color scheme. Quote
gazumpty Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Nice work...you have really captured the design and look of the 'comic book' image! Quote
BJM Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Love them. Could you add something to the front though to give some extra texture/colour. I cannot work out if it should be a grey grill of some sort, or even just a clear 2 by 1 (not just flat white). And is there anyway of getting any red at the front - I even wondered about taking a Liberty and making the 2 cheese slopes red. I love it though, and most of your figs (especially those you create out of standard parts). Finally, demanding I know, but could you photo these with some small trees and vegetation. This could be a very good scene indeed with great source material. Great stuff. Quote

I tried various variants, but this worksvthe best :-)And is there anyway of getting any red at the front - I even wondered about taking a Liberty and making the 2 cheese slopes red.that would be too much red I'm afraid;'look at Chewie's speederbike, it has but a hint of red, not a quarter of the front in that colour...I love it though, and most of your figs (especially those you create out of standard parts). This could be a very good scene indeed with great source material. my expertise lays far from building scenes, dioramas and trees. I'm a one-trick monkey really; it's vehicles or nothing, bit like how LEGO does it themselves ;-). But hey, they're easy to build, so why not give it a go yourself! :-) Great Job! Thanks Quote
